Title: One week until Christmas!
Post by: Flame on December 18, 2009, 06:51:59 AM
Who's ready?

I'm mostly ready, except for food-stuff and a couple things I still need/want to get for the kiddos.

Supposed to get a snow storm through this neck of the woods tomorrow...thinking I might try to go out tonight instead.

I can't wait! I am making ham and other yummy stuff. My daughter's play kitchen came in the other day and I cannot wait till me and Mr. SO put it together Christmas Eve! We are going to do the cookies and milk for Santa for the first time too. This is going to be an awesome Christmas. Also, this year I am tempted to make egg nog from scratch but if looks like it will be a pain in the arse, I will just pick a gallon at Safe Mart.

I've got a good chunk of my gifts ready, and I'll be going out tomorrow for the last few (hopefully).  I'm taking off Christmas Eve through New Years, so I'm rushing around at work trying to get all my work done to make it easy on my co-workers while I'm out.

Gifts are purchased, not wrapped, but I have wrapping paper.  Cards sent, packages that needed to be sent, are sent.  Rum balls, fudge and truffles still unmade.  Tree still on porch, not decorated.  House still dirty, and I didn't want to put up the tree until it was clean.

I think I am ahead of the game.   :-)

Am I the only one that will be glad when it's over?  :evillaugh:

I'm ready gifts-wise.  I am almost ready cooking wise.  I buy the veggies last minute.  But already bought my pork tenderloins, ravioli, h'ordourves and drinks. I still need to buy the yams, mushrooms and other assorted veggie side dishes.

I only did a tree...not other decorations as I'm in a temporary home....but I usually doing something on the patio as well, not this year.

What time should I be there? Still want me to bring the box-wine and MN Martini's? :cheersmate:

I can't wait for Jan 02, 2010.

I'm on a tight budget for shopping, so I did all my online shopping last payday so I know it'd all get here in time.  This coming payday - which is Christmas EVE! Yikes! I'll be running around getting the gifts such as gift cards and whatnot that are readily available.  I've been trying to wrap the gifts as I get them.  My parents are doing dinner so all I have to get ready is to do the dishes afterwards.  I'm having friends over on Saturday after Christmas so it'll be relaxed.  But - all the decorations are up & running, including two Christmas trees!  One is a big glorious pre-lit number with matching green & gold ornaments that I put up for "me" (I always wanted a NYC department store type tree) and the other is a smaller, kid-friendly job adorned with all kinds of homemade and sentimental through-the-years type ornaments.  And finally, the cats are old enough to leave both of them alone!

Anyone else have issues with cats who claim their Christmas trees as their own?

One year, a thousand-million years ago, when I was still in High School, we did a small live tree, because we were going to my Grandparents.  I begged my Mom not to bring out the ornaments, because packing and un packing was such a chore.  She complied, and I decorated this tree with ribbon, and bought a crystal angel for the topper.  We had it on a buffet, right by our staircase.  Dang cat jumped from railing to tree, tipping over the tree and of course the angel met a quick and sudden demise.  Grrrrrrr.

Surprisingly this year, the cats don't seem all that interested. Might have something to do with I left the undecorated one in the living room an extremely long time after last Christmas.  :uhsure:

I haven't started baking, but I have a bit over half of the decorating done and I still have a week until Christmas. Not my usual leaving it until Christmas Eve like I have done the last several years.

Christmas has been my least favorite holiday for many many years....too many bad memories.

This year...I'm excited!

Very few purchased gifts as times are lean. Not having to figure out what to get people has eliminated a lot of stress for me.

Gifts are going to be from my kitchen....which is very easy for me and makes me happy to make goodies for people. A win/win situation!!!

Bestest of all ....I have my two favorite men in the house with me helping out.....my sweet of heart and my son.

I did not Frank!  And the cat story cracks me up...  :lmao:  I imagine a long table of cats with great upright posture seated on each side, sporting identical bibs with their hands folded.... eagerly awaiting their Fancy Feat in a glass bowl... :lmao:

Not much to get ready for here at home. Gifts have been bought, wrapped and shipped a couple weeks ago. I took my mom's gifts to her house and put under her tree during that same time. I used a new charge card for all of the gifts.  :fuelfire: Just kidding, it's all bought and paid for already.

I have a four day weekend for Christmas and as of now, have no plans. My only family here, my mother, will be out of town. She is going to surprise my sister with a visit.  :evillaugh:

I've had alot of "you can come over to our house" offers, but I usually just do my own thing. It's been crazy busy at work and I'm in the middle of working ten days in a row...so I'm not really anxious to make plans until I know I am still alive then!  :-)

I have been in your situation before.  Sometimes a little quiet is all the Christmas Blessing one needs.

Woke up to about 10 inches of snow covering the landscape, and still coming down.  Glad I went out last night to pick up a couple things, rather than wait until today, which was the original plan!

Now i just get to put up with my daughter complaining about there being nothing to do today!

You are right. Quiet time is a Blessing and one major advantage of being single.  :-) I'm in a long distance relationship which works out really well for me...

Over the years, my mother and late father traveled alot in their RV & I spent (by choice) alot of holidays home alone just chilling out during the day. If I felt like going somewhere, I went somewhere. I never really made plans ahead of time, other then during three years of relationship hell.  :evillaugh:

I only live about 50 yards from my mother, I moved to Nevada to help her when she needed it. I'm here when she needs me & I don't have to worry so much about her. What more could I ask for? I have all I need.

There's always the laundry to do or bathrooms to clean...bring those up and I bet money she finds something to do.  :-)

Yep...already told her I didn't want to hear it, or I WOULD find something for her to do!

Up to about 16-18 inches at least now.
