Some H1N1 Vaccine Recalled
Reported by: Patrick Fazio
Tuesday, Dec 15, 2009 @09:12pm EST
800,000 doses of H1N1 swine flu vaccine are being recalled, and some of it's here in the Valley. The CDC says the recall is not a safety issue and its only for some of the children's vaccine.
Tests found the potency was weak in some of the vaccine for children 6 to 35 months. Children who did receive the vaccine do not face any increased health risks and are likely still protected from H1N1.
The CDC doesn't know how many of the doses were given out, but doesn't believe children will need to be re-vaccinated. The recalled vaccine did make it's way to the Valley, including Putnam and Vigo Counties.
The Vigo County Health Department reassured parents during Tuesday's clinic for the second round of the children's H1N1 vaccine. Nine years olds and younger should get two rounds of the vaccine, regardless of the recall.
As far as who already received the weaker, recalled vaccine, the Health Department can't be sure.
Vigo County Health Department Health Educator and Media Coordinator Megan Bland says "There would really be no way of knowing, honestly. If they did, there's nothing to worry about. Again, it's not a safety concern whatsoever. It's just that it wasn't as potent of a vaccine as what the other ones were. Basically, you will not have to have it readministered."
Vigo County expects to have plenty of H1N1 vaccine available despite the recall.

I'm glad that I refuse to take this garbage. It's apparent that the manufacturers don't give a crap about much except the bottom line until they get caught. :shame:
-
Seems like the manufacturers were pushed to me and they didn't object but went after the money.
I won't take it either. I don't trust the makers to follow published guidelines and don't like the risks if they don't.

H1N1 - yet another non-crisis...
-
I was one of the few at work who didn't take it. The whole H1N1 scare is exaggerated...as more people die from the seasonal flu.
I do take the seasonal flu vaccine, as I do every year..and I now have a cold...but I'd rather nurse a cold than the full blown flu...I skipped it one year and severely regretted it.

I agree, the H1N1 scare was far too overblown.
I haven't had a flu vaccine since 2003 (?) (Whenever the first flu vaccine shortage was this millennium) and I haven't gotten the flu since.

Working in my office, you'd need a breath mint and deodorant before any kind of vaccine.
Agreed... this was way overblown this year to the point of being ridiculous. I wouldn't kick Julie Gerberding out of bed, but this was a joke.
-
I had the H1N1 vaccine a couple months of ago. I was glad I did when a co-worker came down with H1N1, it was nasty for her.
In a week or so I have to start offering H1N1 at my location. We will be busier then shit. That will suck.

Hell... imagine the outcry if this was actually covered in the news. It's been well downplayed.
-
YUP- the media will never cover this....but Bam will somehow take credit that no one died from the flu that wasn't :blah:
-
This is the same government that wants to control our healthcare too, right? :rotf:
-
Just amazing
-
Didn't the government "take charge" of production and distribution earlier this year for the Heinie virus?
