Newbie here, but not to online discussion fora. I found you through that great resource of the VRWC, Bing. As my forum name suggests, I'm Pete; "SV" refers to Silicon Valley, where I live. I'm a native CA'ian, growing up near a large agricultural town in the Central Valley. Nosing around yesterday, I noticed a familiar name, rich_t, who "knows" me by another "name". I've been around conservative discussion fora for about 12 years, so there may be others here who "know" me.
Lessee ... like many who live in SV, I work in electronics ... I'm a theologically conservative Christian ... who looked around the American political landscape and realized that I'm much more conservative than otherwise ... and that, whatever the D Party may once have been, for most of my lifetime it has been fleeing many of the things theologically conservative Christians find important in society and life. We homeschooled our kids K-12.
All the above would have been mentioned in posts if I continued posting here, but this will save at least some explanation. I'm not much for onlurking, so I just jumped in here.

BTW, contrary to my avatar pic, my beard is white and short, and my hairstyle is short with a wide part down the middle, :-) .

Welcome.
Beware the ptarmigans.

Welcome! :cheersmate: Now pick an avatar or you will be a caveman forever. :-)

Welcome! :cheersmate:

Buh-bye trogloditic avatar ... hope the "foreign" flag doesn't creep out too many Heartland folk. I've talked to the brown bear and Minerva, and none of us are entirely happy about the way things are going here. Hopefully I can get settled in here at the Cave and soon start "real" posting.
Thanks for the welcomes!

Ummm, a part in excess of 2 inches is NOT a "part"....... :lmao: :lmao:
Anyways, welcome, Pete
BTW, I'm into electronics, too.

You know me from elsewhere? Don't brag it about that. It won't score you any points with these folks.

Hi Pete!
(do you by any chance, work for Actel?)
-
:uhsure: Well, I didn't say your recollection would necessarily be pleasant or unpleasant - PeteS. :uhsure:
Actel? Nope. I've been almost entirely in the analog world, ~25 years of it working with power supplies. Almost got jobs at Maxim and Micrel (both analog IC companies) at different times, but that's as close as I've come to the semi companies.

My brother works for them in Chicago and from what I understand...their main facility is in SV. He goes out there several times a year.

Chicago ... sounds like a marketing and/or tech support office. Their HQ is in Mountain View, roughly between the former Moffett NAS and Shoreline Amphitheater, an outdoor concert venue.

It is...
He's an electrical engineer with an MBE from Northwestern. He worked for S & C Electric, as an engineer in R & D, for a few years and did several patents for them. He wanted more money and they weren't willing until he turned in his notice.
He's an account supervisor or something like that for Actel. Has a huge territory and lives in Chicago. He likes it and as he says, they pay him what he's worth to them.

Thanks again for the welcomes, folks!
An engineer who went over to the dark side, Marketing?! :-) Traitor! :-) Seriously, if he has the right personality, he could be a customer's dream, a marketing guy with real technical knowledge. Some of the sales people I dealt with when I was in engineering were :o or ::) .
