Why are/were so many right-wing heroes complete idiots?
I mean, Ronald Reagan, Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Dumbya....
The list goes on and on. Very few of the wingnuts heroes have much between the ears.

Hey primitives, if you're as smart as you claim to be, why can't you get everyone to agree with you? I mean, if you were really that smart, convincing everyone to see it your way would be a snap. You'd know exactly what to say in every situation so they would have no choice but to agree. To believe otherwise would be to admit you're not that smart, and you know that's not the case.

Heck, the dummies can't even decide on rubber gloves or what to have for dinner without group therapy sessions on DU, but they think they're superior in every way. In spite of all evidence to the contrary, they believe that socialism and communism just hasn't been tried "correctly" yet. In spite of human nature, and all recorded human history, they think they know a better way of human interaction to trade goods. They sit at their mass produced computers, connected to each other by commercial infrastructure and wish they could do away with that in the name of the state. They covet the belongings of all around them and call us greedy.
While some may be intelligent, they are all willfully ignorant in the hopes of taking away everyone else's livelihoods for their own perceived gain, and just to see others forced down to their level of laziness and lack of motivation.

It's a popular meme on both sides to try to stick the other with Hitler, he really had attributes of both. The same would be true of Mussolini, but from today's subjective perspective he looks like a clown so nobody bothers (He wasn't nearly so funny if you lived in Italy or Sicily in the 30s, you can be sure).
