Title: Dems Vote To Allow Federal Funding For Corrupt Acorn

Last night, defying the will of a bipartisan majority of the House and Senate, Democrats voted to allow the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to receive federal taxpayer dollars.

In September, large Congressional majorities in both houses voted to sever all ties between the federal government and ACORN.  The Senate vote was 85-11; the House vote was 345-75.  You’d think that those votes, which USA Today described as prohibiting “any federal funding for the community organizing group,” would have settled the matter.  You’d be wrong.

Months later, with the country’s focus on jobs, healthcare, and the Global War on Terror, Democrats are moving to restore funding to ACORN.  Last night, Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA) offered an amendment during deliberations on the Democrats’ massive year-end appropriations bill to clarify the prohibition on federal funds going to ACORN or its subsidiaries.  That amendment was shot down on a 5-9 party line vote as Republicans sided with taxpayers while Democrats stood with ACORN.

Rep. Latham’s amendment is necessary to prevent taxpayer money from going to ACORN because the Obama Administration’s Department of Justice has taken advantage of a legal loophole to allow ACORN to continue to receive federal funds – despite the passage of the House GOP’s Defund ACORN Act in the fall.

The American people and the Congress have spoken loud and clear: ACORN should be denied any taxpayer funds.  Period.

They must be absolutely convinced that we're idiots with no memories whatsoever.

Well, that and looking at the names, they're in districts where they'll get reelected for life.

But, it Republicans are smart (no given, considering the recent RINO shift), they'll beat the Blue Dogs over the head with this.  If the Blue Dogs aren't in office, this doesn't happen.

I offered up this story for the front page.  Do you how hard it was to find those names, with 2 hiding under the desk?  Nobody was naming names!  John Boehner is over at Biggov, fighting the good fight.  Comments of course are outraged as hell.
BSSaint is right, this can be used as a bludgeon.

They decided to refund ACORN just as soon as the latest polling data showed them losing their asses in 2010.

Why campaign when ACORN can manufacture the votes using OPM. Save your campaign dollars for something important, like keeping your mistress out of the tabloids.

Someone had to help keep their jobs in the midterm elections

What scares me is Obama hasn't even been in office a year yet. He and the other 2 branches of the Government can do some real serious damage before saner heads can be in place. Even scarier, people like Pelosi and Franks and other Elected Criminals, will probably cake walk back into office.
Most of the voters just have to short a memory, or don't want to upset the apple cart.

I have become so numb to how corrupt this country is becoming. If there was a better country, I would move. I am sick of it all.   :banghead:

Acorn is just another group who feels entitled....and the democrats are enablers of these groups.  Eventually there won't be anything left to take (from those of us who produce).  Yup...we're getting closer to becoming United Socialists of America.

In essence the dems can grant funding to any group now and once started it can`t be ended without a lengthy legal and bureaucratic review.
I am at a loss for words as to what this country will be by the time next years elections roll around.
The dems are going to be like a cornered animal next year trying to institutionalize as much as they can before voted out of office.
God help us.

So, can they get their funding cut if they are prosecuted and found guilty of their election "activities?"

Here's the blurb in full:
Quote
NEW YORK -- A federal judge has ruled the U.S. government's move to cut off funding to ACORN is unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Nina Gershon issued the preliminary injunction against the government Friday. She ruled that it is in the public's interest for the organization to continue receiving federal funding.

ACORN claimed in its lawsuit that Congress' decision to cut off its funding was unconstitutional because it punitively targeted an organization.

A lawyer for ACORN says the decision sends a sharp message to Congress that it can't single out an individual or organization without due process.

ACORN portrays itself as an advocate for low-income and minority homebuyers and others. Critics say it has violated the tax-exempt status of some affiliates by engaging in partisan political activities.

Holy sh*t!  I used to think J. Gershon was at least mildly respectable; now I know for sure she's either senile, or is abusing her judicial powers for rank political purposes.  She should be impeached forthwith and removed from the bench.

Took some notes on that asinine photo of the ACORN a-holes:

Anyone find it even the least bit amusing that a group that is dedicated to stripping the rest of us of our private property rights has the chutzpah to nonetheless claim enforceable intellectual property rights on a common English word like "acorn?"

Who knows at this point really as I can`t even begin to understand the rationale of this decision.
A bill of attainder as I understood it meant that a law could not be passed to specifically criminalize and punish an individual.
To extend that to a group or organization is unfathomable and would remove from elected representatives the ability to oversee public funds.

The SCOTUS should be petitioned immediately but not sure they would grant Certiorari without it first being appealed to a circuit court.
It could take years at this point and can you imagine the number of leftist groups that will now have funding written into the budget process.
Unless overturned this ruling now allows Congress to set up a system of extra constitutional government via tax exempt organizations funded by tax dollars but virtually unanswerable to the public over the use of its funds.
