FORT WORTH, Texas  —  The Army charged the Fort Hood shooting suspect with 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.

These charges are added to the 13 premeditated murder charges filed against Maj. Nidal Hasan in the wake of the Nov. 5 shooting massacre at Fort Hood.

The Army said the attempted murder charges filed Wednesday were related to the 30 soldiers and two civilian police officers injured in the shooting at a soldier processing center on the central Texas post.

And now, a convenient accident.   :evillaugh:

"We've just been informed that an unfortunate hospital accident occurred last night.  Apparently a scalpel slipped, entered the suspect's rectum, and exited his nasal cavity.  Although stastically unlikely, it is among the many risks associated with extended stay in the ICU."

Heck, let Obama use it as an example of "much-needed reform" if he wants.

"I'm incensed at the way the military is handling this, serving additional charges on my client when he's in the hospital and defense attorneys are not present," Galligan told The AP by phone from his office near Fort Hood, about 150 miles southwest of Fort Worth. "And nobody will tell me what the plans are for the evaluation."

What kind of scum bag does this lawyer have to be to defend this guy?
I know under our constitution he is entitled to representation but, you have to wonder about the lawyers who defend scum like this guy.

The lawyer knows he has little chance of winning the case , but look at the free publicity he is getting.

I like to think the types of lawyers that defend cases likes this are those who hold justice and the Constitution in the highest regard, knowing that the right to a fair trial is among the most precious and fundamental rights we have.

Of course, I'm wrong, but I like to think that.

Ex JAG Colonel. The lawyer doesn't have to be a JAG. He's allowed to hire a private attorney on his own dime.

But if you ask the lawyers, I'm sure that's the answer you'll get.

Since he's been unconscious for quite some time (is he still - haven't been following?), I'd like to know how he hired a private attorney.

Family hired him.

Ahhh... that brings up a whole other set of questions, but definitely clears up that issue! Thanks.

I remember reading about a week ago that Nidal was conscious and talking.

Seems to me that can't arrest a guy who's unconscious.  :clueless:

It sure would be easier to slip something into his IV tube if he was unconscious, though.  :evillaugh:
