My sister had her second (and hopefully last) son today. Cameron Taylor was born 3:57 PM today. He's 20" and 6 lbs 12 oz, which is surprising since he is 2 1/2 weeks early. For those that aren't friends on FB, Whitney was almost killed 3 months ago in a car crash and she's been making incredible strides since then. From near death with multiple bruises on her brain and several broken bones, she's been up walking and regaining her memory, though she does have her forgetful moments. On Saturday, she ended up back in ICU with pneumonia and possible H1N1. The last couple days have been one crisis after another, so the docs did a C section and put her back on a ventilator. They're talking about having to suction fluid out of her lungs tomorrow. That should be fun. :banghead:

She's in a good hospital at least. Mother Frances in Tyler. They've always taken good care of her.

Congratulations on the new nephew. I can't believe all that your poor sister has been through. Makes my health issues I'm having right now seem small. Prayers for her and that new baby.

An email my mom sent to her friends last night. Good news. And they settled on Cameron Joseph and not Cameron Taylor.
I just spoke to Whitney's ICU nurse and she is off the ventilator! What a miracle. The surgery was very successful so the next step is to make sure she can stay off the ventilator for a day then they will transfer her to a regular room and finish getting her healthy. The NICU got to bring Cameron down in his enclosed incubator so Whitney could see him for the first time. She didn't get to pick him up since they still consider her as having H1N1 but she did get to see him, and I understand she had a smile from ear to ear. She is quite sore from the surgery today and the c-section yesterday but they are making sure she has plent of pain medication, and are keeping her somewhat sedated so she can rest & heal. I feel so much better this evening then I did last night.
Cameron is doing quite well. My sister came out this morning and she spent time with me in the NICU admiring our newest handsome addition to the family. She thinks he is the cutest little thing ever and I certainly have to agree. He is being fed down his nose right now while they try to kick start his stomach and he seems to be tolerating everything well. I am attaching a picture we took today so you could get a look at him. Once they get Cameron to tolerate his feedings, they will move him to the regular nursery to make sure he can hold his body warmth and tolerate being out of the incubator. Once that happens, he should be going home within a day or so.
Right now, we don't know when Whitney or Cameron will be going home. I still think he will make it home before his mommy but we'll see what happens.
Leslie is staying the night with me and will make sure all is well before she heads back to Dallas. Once again, all of the prayers are working. Thank you for everything.

Aw Mike. That is great news. Superb news. My nephew was early, and he had the same treatment sounds like to me.

Latest update from mom:
Whitney had a good day and the chest tube came out this morning so that is one more thing she doesn't have to deal with. There are still a couple of wires run into her chest and I don't know when those will be removed but hopefully soon. She is still receiving two different antibiotics and an IV drip, along with breathing treatments every 4 hours. The Internal Medicine doctor that is managing her case since she left ICU came in about 7:50 this evening, listened to her chest and visited for a couple of minutes. He said things are looking better and she is on the mend. After the bloodwork results come back tomorrow, he said everyone will get together and put together a plan of action to decide when she will be able to get out of the hospital.
Cameron has lost some more weight and is down to 5 lbs. 14.5 oz. I saw his nurse this evening and she feels he is on the turnaround as he had 3 small bottle feedings in a row today and it went great. His bilirubin number continues to drop so that is good news so hopefully he will be out from underneath the phototherapy lights soon. The nurses/doctors are wonderful and they are monitoring him very closely so I pray that we will see his weight start to go up soon. He's still the cutest little thing. :-)
Whitney did get to have Cameron in her room for about 10 minutes this morning but she is still not allowed to hold him and she is going crazy. I know the doctors have to make 100% sure she is clear from all infection before she can hold him but my heart breaks for her. She told me it all seems so surreal and she doesn't even feel like she had a baby. She tells everyone who comes into her room that she just wants to hold her little boy so I am hoping this can happen in the next day or two.
It looks like both are on the road to recovery and I am so thankful for that.

Mike....good news about Whitney! and sounds like little Cameron is doing great, too.
My heart goes out to Whitney....I can't imagine what it would be like for a mother to not be able to hold her baby.

I was wondering if we had an update yet. Prayers up for both. I believe she will be holding that little one before too long.
