"BALTIMORE — A jury convicted Mayor Sheila Dixon on Tuesday on one count of embezzlement for stealing gift cards that were meant for poor residents, but it acquitted her of three other charges, including the most serious felony theft charge.
Ms. Dixon, whose conviction may force her from office, faced five theft-related charges, and the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision concerning one of the charges, which prompted the state prosecutor to say he was undecided on whether to refile that charge.
“The city will still continue to move forward,†Ms. Dixon said as she left the courtroom after the verdict, adding that she was headed to City Hall to get back to work. “This city will continue to run.â€" NYTimes (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/02/us/02baltimore.html)
I don't know if she is a republican or a democrat. I didn't see it in a scan of the article, but I might have missed it.

I'm pretty sure Dixon is a Democrat. That's probably why it wasn't mentioned in the article.

D's never get mentioned but if she was an R You'd have seen at least a half dozen mentions in that short article.

Some residents viewed the trial as politically or racially motivated. Ms. Dixon, who is black and was born and raised in West Baltimore, is a Democrat who leads a majority-black, deeply Democratic city. Mr. Rohrbaugh [the state prosecutor] is a white Republican.

I don't think the NY Times would say "some residents feel the trial is racially motivated" if the perp was a Republican. In their kool-ade lefty minds, only Republicans are racially/politically biased. I wouldn't even use the NY Times as terlet paper or bird cage liner. lol And they (NYTIMES) wonder why their circulation has plummeted and layoffs have been made by the ton.

I realize this is an old thread, but she's definitely a dem...the interesting thing to me is how pissed her constituents are at her. Guess they're mad she was stealing gift cards meant for them.
