Title: Incandescent bulbs...
Post by: bkg on November 30, 2009, 11:08:29 PM

I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes incandescents... so I've been grabbing them before they are completely illegal (100 watts next year or 2011???) thanks to Bush 43.

Walgreens has an off-brand for a great price. 12 for $3.00.  60 watts or 100 watts available. They are NOT the best, I'll admit. They last a few months in outside lights...  so I just try to grab a box or two when I stop at Walgreens.

Not sure if the same deal is availab elsewhere, but just in case!

I too hate the new bulbs.  We bought new fixtures for our dining room and for both sides of the fireplace and they were made for the plug in type of stupid CLF bulb.  I hate the light that CLF's make, you can't dim them and they are really hard on my eyes (fluorescent lights are notoriously bad for dry eyes).  I refuse to use them.  My husband rewired the fixtures with the old style socket.  Now I have great lighting, I can dim the lights and my eyes are happy.

I have two halogen desk lamps on my computer desk. The only CFL bulb in the house is a little 15watt one that we leave on as a night light when we will be coming late. We don't like to leave the dog in the dark.

I have stocked up on bulbs for the foreseeable future.

I bet I have more than you!

CFL's give me migranes. No one will be taking away my incandescents.

Almost every bulb in our house is the new style cfl that looks more like an incandescent bulb. They take about 20 seconds or so to fully brighten but they don't have that same weird color. And because Mrs RC swears we're saving over $50 a month that's good enough for me.

Doing it by choice is one thing.

Doing it by force is another.

I think the new bulbs are really hard to read by...

One of the grocery's near me has those funky colored lights that kind of glow....I avoid there if possible...the light is too annoying and I walk out with a headache.

One of the grocery stores near me leaves half the lights in the store off all day long. I refuse to go there because it's too dark.

You can buy the CFL in different kelvin ratings.  You can alos buy dimmable ones, but they are expensive.
