At his best, the golfer Tiger Woods has an aim that is pinpoint accurate; at 2.25am on Friday he was all over the place.
After a Thanksgiving dinner with his wife Elin Nordegren at their home in Florida, he leapt into his car — for reasons that may or may not be connected with rumours linking him to another woman — and shot off down the drive, apparently with his wife in pursuit, clutching a golf club. Keeping your head down, feet solidly planted and eye on the ball is not easy in such tricky conditions.
According to reports in the US, Woods became “distracted†and, thinking the vehicle had stopped, looked to see what had happened. At that point his Cadillac 4x4 hit a fire hydrant and then a tree.
His wife then used the golf club to smash the car’s back window, and later explained to police she had done so to release the vehicle’s central locking system. She said she lifted the 6ft 1in athlete out of the car and laid him on the ground. ....
