Politics or sedition? Rush Limbaugh calls for military coup
Politics or sedition? Rush Limbaugh calls for military coup
November 26, 10:20 AM - Portland Progressive Examiner - Michael Stone
When does a political joke become sedition? Rush Limbaugh is calling for a military coup, and the joke, if it is a joke, is not funny. Rush, speaking about President Obama's upcoming speech at West Point, expressed hope that military officials at the Academy would "detain" President Obama.
Regardless of one's politics, to suggest that military officials at the United States Military Academy detain the President of the United States is to suggest a military coup. Such a suggestion is sedition. Limbaugh is advocating military insurrection.
Limbaugh has made similar remarks before. Speaking of the Honduran coup Rush had this to say: "The coup was what many of you wish would happen here, without the military"; and, "If we had any good luck, Honduras would send some people here and help us get our government back".
.................
It is doubtful that Limbaugh will suffer any meaningful consequences. ... These kind of inflammatory remarks by Rush and other right wing nuts continue to damage the credibility of conservatives and the GOP. .........

8. The term "wishing" refers to a silent mental activity --
But that is not what is happening here. Limbaugh is clearly suggesting that the military should overthrow the government. It does not stretch the meaning of his words to say that he is urging the military to do it.
It bears mentioning that this message is broadcast to our troops via Armed Forces Radio.
Rush Limbaugh should be placed in one of those now-vacant cells down in Cuba. I am WISHING that he would be arrested and put there.

26. Legal free speech ends when you incite riots like yelling
fire in an auditorium, when there isn't one. This is the same thing and if you listened to other talk show host than Limbaugh or Hannity you would know that because it has been discussed on the air with Constitutional lawyers defining the law. Calling for the overthrow of your government is treason. Nobody ever called for it when Bush was installed as President although he was pretty illegitimate what with stealing elections and all because it's treason not a First amendment right.

41. Oh you are too much.
Don't even try to BS me or bully me. I am not the person using the Constitution as a shield to hide behind. Limbaugh should be in prison not only for drugs but for being anti-American. He has shown his traitorous ways over and over again but always hides behind the "I'm only an entertainer" free speech position. It's an abuse of the First Amendment in every way, just like the gun nuts abuse the Second Amendment. Someday the Supreme Court is going to have to draw a line on this.

71. You apparently aren't aware of the danger this exhibits.
The thing is - people listen to this shit AND TAKE IT ****ING SERIOUSLY. Oxyrush talks a lot of shit. A ****ing lot. But he never has the balls to act on it. It's like the Joker from the Dark Knight - he wasn't capable of pulling off some of the shit he did but his men did. And that's what this type of crap does to our society. The thing is - we talk a lot of shit about the freepers and all that but the thing is - they're a very scary and very organized group, capable of anything. Including this.

67. Is it likely to incite it?
That's very open to interpretation.
But, a jury informed of political struggles between the WH and the military, and the way McChrystal and others have gone public in unusual ways in order to influence the WH's options, and the Air Force's recent history of Dominionist influence, and the historical perspective Eisenhower cast on the situation with his heroic warnings about the military industrial complex, and the ascendancy of Blackwater, and the right-wing media's constant assertion that Obama is a Marxist/socialist/Nazi/Kenyan/Taxenator, might be inclined to think:
Yes. They want to take back this country, just like they say. And they say they'll do it any way.
Any way.

Ringknockers risk a bad career move? Fat chance.
Sarcasm aside, nobody in their right mind could take that seriously. Not that the DUmpMonkeys are in their right minds, of course.

4. Then we don't need just cause to arrest and detain Bush, Cheney et al.
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 03:54 PM by Dover
Not that their list of criminal activities isn't more than enough to lock them up. But wouldn't the "police-staters" be the first to cry bloody murder if they were detained without cause, subjected to torture, etc. That would be justice, applying their own policies to them.
Of course this kind of behavior is only acceptable in dictatorships and societies that don't provide rights for its citizens. That's what the U.S. has become, all based on the excuse that they are providing security. Isn't that ironic.

128. I discussed the possibility here before
Edited on Sun Apr-09-06 04:46 AM by symbolman
actually more like DEMANDED that the Joint Chiefs of Staff Immediately arrest and detain Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and whoever else is signed on for these bizarre anti constitutional, war crimes, war profiteering, etc.
I still would like to field that same demand as a Citizen and a Veteran, that the Military refuse all orders from Bush as they are illegal and detain him, if nothing else to have him examined for the possibility that he may be mentally ill, and according to the Constitution there is a remedy for that situation.
At this point is appears that the only thing that will save us is the oath taken by those in the military, one that I took myself, "to Protect and Defend this Nation against enemies both WITHIN and Without.."
Bush is the REAL Terrorist, his Pre-emptive attack campaign is forcing soverign nations to defend themselves PRE-EMPTIVELY, at what point are THEY the Terrorists, when BUSH is FORCING them to DEFEND themselves in advance, at which time they use HIS EXACT SAME DOCTRINE.
I hope to god that Baltimore doesn't light up like a Fireworks factory on fire, especially with unguarded ports as we've seen reported.
There should be no doubt in anyone's mind at this point that these persons claiming to be the executive branch of the united states are imposters, and criminally insane.
It's up to the Joint Chiefs at this point, god forbid any resign, they'll be replaced with CIVILIANS (read:CORPORATE SHILLS) who Swear no Alligiance to the Constitution and supply no Oath to protect and defend this country.
These people are TRAITORS.

11. They'll be back after we elect some real progressives to
"take over" congress and in 08 when we elect a PROGRESSIVE president. Order of business for the new prez:
1st day reverse all of Bush's executive orders
2nd day withdraw all troops from Iraq, followed by all troops outside the borders of the US
3rd day present free national health care program to the congress and demand it's passage into law
4th day arrest and detain Bush and all his henchmen/henchwomen, extradite any that have fled the country, refer them to the Hague for prosecution
5th day start work with congress to review all laws with the goal of repealing all "anti personal freedom" laws
6th reverse all laws that give corporations the same rights and standings as individuals
7th day...take a break, you deserve it, don't go to any church...flaunt it, play poker instead.
Of course many advances will have already been made by the progressive congress and impeachment hearing may actually be underway with enough evidence piled up to refer the case directly to the Hague.
It's fun to dream, now back to reality, The 06 and 08 elections have been stolen again by diebolt. An FBI/CIA/NSA raid broke up a small group of American revolutionaries meeting in Philadelphia............

3. I think he should be charged, read his Miranda rights and arrested, however,
there is that small problem of the secret service who must defend him, even from our own law enforcement, and that he is commander-and-chief of a rather formidable military. It would have to be done after he leaves office, but I don't know who would do it unless a new Attorney General is put in office that has the patriotism and balls to deal with it.

23. This is how I hope this whole sordid era of our history ends;
that we have our own version of Nuremberg trials that brings the whole cabal and their sycophants to justice. If we can't do it I hope the World Court does even if it has to be in absentia.
Even if they leave power with their ill gotten gains and go into private life, I want those judgments and sentences in absentia to hang over their heads. I want other countries to honor the World Court by arresting them and turning them over to the Hague to begin their sentences if any one of them dares enter their country.
I want history to know who they were.

20. It would be nice if Congress invoked the 25th ammendment.
It would make things easier. Although, it would also let him and Cheney off scott free. I think they need to be impeached, sentenced and imprisoned as an example to any other would be dictators who want to wage perpetual war.

24. I'm wondering why no one is stepping up to the plate to get him
tried at the Hague or at least Dick Cheney, whom I believe is behind all this. The Hague requires that a Sovereign nation petition them for a hearing and trial for war crimes or whatever charges they want to present. If the Hague decides to hear the case they will demand their extradition and I can't see that happening, but at least it would put them on notice that they'd better not step a foot outside of our borders. Maybe other nations are hesitant because they are afraid he might bomb them in retaliation.
Stupid DUouchebaggers keep saying this yet forget all those times they said the same damn things for over 8 years when Bush was in office.
Does anyone know which day and hour this was supposed to have occurred?
I'd be interested in seeing a transcript of the original broadcast without the retarded hysteria ascribed to it.

RUSH: By the way, the spin on Afghanistan has begun in advance of President Obama and his trip to West Point to announce his great war strategy for Afghanistan. I asked earlier: I wonder if the Army will detain him while he's there. It's a dream. I know it won't happen.
On what pretext are the WPers suppose to detain Obama?
There was none............are you searching for something?Well, I know the libtards dreamt day and night of the military refusing Bush's orders or even handing him over to The Hague. It was absurd then and it is absurd now, Obama's tenure notwithstanding.
