The results of CQ Press's 16th annual crime city rankings are in. The report ranks 393 American cities in six different categories -- murder, rape, burglary, robbery, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft. The end result of these rankings were used to compile this list of the most dangerous cities in America.
A year ago, New Orleans held the crown. Click through our gallery and see which place dethroned The Big Easy and what other cities made the list.

Not surpringly, virtually all the cities listed are run by corrupt Republican party machines, some of them having been that way for generations.

4. They have a large population.
So anything that is calculated as a "per capita" is going to be lower for them. What would be interesting is if they split the boroughs up and evaluated them separately.

2. Anchorage is #146 on the most-to-least list. It could be worse, I guess.

3. What? Detroit's not #1?
From the way the media frames it, you figure Detroit would be #'s 1-10.
To be honest, however, as someone who has lived in Detroit and spent time in some of Camden's worst areas campaigning for our now President, I think this study got it right.
Camden needs some serious love. There are good people there, but they are in desperate need of some real assistance from our government.
Camden needs that corrupt political machine that's run it for generations exorcised.

5. You're much more likely to be raped or murdered in El Paso, TX (257), than Dearborn, MI (200)
So the methodology seems a bit suspect.

7. El Paso' pretty safe, though.
I lived there and, while poor, it's surprisingly not very crime ridden.

6. Be sure to do the Metro Area ones
Going by city is not a good gauge as it speaks in some cases more to how big the city itself is compared to it's suburban areas. Metro area gives a clearer picture.
For instance by City Boston gets a 73.80, but by Metro it's (4.32).
Pittsburgh, where the city itself counts for just one of over 200 separate townships in the county gets ranked 48th with a 129.58 by itself, but as a metro area it's ranked 227th with a (27.12).
Just sayin. Go by Metro.

10. Charleston WVA Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) is 158, thus WV is on the list
West Virgina Metropolitan Statistical Areas:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_census_stati...
OTHER West Virginia MSA on the list
Hagerstown-Martinsburg, MD-WV is 44
Wheeling MSA is 54
Weirton-Steubenville, WV-OH is 19
Cumberland, MD-WV is 122 (Yes, Cumberland is in Maryland, but this MSA includes parts of West Virginia).
Yes, no West Virginian Cities are on the list, but West Virginia has at least 4 (MSA) on the list.
The mountain man primitive got owned, and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Cime is very low in WV. West Virginia is desperately lacking in diversity.

Diversity increases crime?
