McCain clinches GOP nomination
(CNN) -- Sen. John McCain swept all four nominating contests on Tuesday to become the Republican presidential nominee.
McCain won primaries in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island, giving him more than the 1,191 delegates needed to clinch the GOP nomination.
On the Democratic side, Sen. Hillary Clinton was projected to break Barack Obama's 12-contest winning streak with a victory in Rhode Island.
Obama was projected to take Vermont, but the contests in Ohio and Texas were too close to call.
Mike Huckabee dropped out of the Republican race after the results came in.
McCain is slated to go to the White House on Wednesday to receive the endorsement of President Bush, according to two Republican sources.
The Arizona senator's campaign -- his second run for the White House -- was largely written off for dead last summer amid outspoken opposition from the party's conservative base, a major staff shakeup and disappointing fundraising.
But McCain said earlier Tuesday that he was confident he would emerge as the presumptive nominee by the end of the night.
McCain overwhelmingly won moderates and conservatives in Ohio, but he lost the evangelical vote to Mike Huckabee, according to exit polls.

I am a little underwhelmed, but we know who our standard bearer will be in november.

At McCain's age, still being alive in November is a crap shoot. I think we should have a back up.
-
I'm under whelmed as well but I hope with everything I have that he wins the general election.
-
*sighs* Well, I will go to the polls in November and select his name on the touch-screen computer.

he matches up well on national security against The BarackStar! and McCain is very deep where The BarackStar! is shallow, which is just about everywhere.

I know. We will be holding our nose with the other hand.

Uh, didn't he clinch it a while ago when all the meaningful competition quit?

well, if it's about getting 1,191 delegates, then it isn't "clinched" until someone acquires the requisite number.

i keep forgetting he's still in it ... we see no signs here anymore and the RP signs were the only ones we'd seen to date.
his tv ads are gone as well... i thought he had pulled out long ago.

And he's still in the race, at least officially. I know Huck just dropped out - they should have both quit over a month ago.

Ya, and poor Juan's not looking like he's feeling so well these days to me. Juan needs to pick a youngish VP, and pick him or her wisely.

That's what I'm hoping for, that Juan turns out to be one of the best POTUS of all time. He's very unpredicatbale, but he's bound to be better than any of the communists in the race. Depends on his cabinet IMO.
