Hi,
Got up at six this morning and drove an hour to the Orlando bookstore arriving around 8:00AM not knowing what to expect. I brought a lawn chair and got in line and learned a good bit. Barnes & Noble gives you a wrist band with a number on it which I got around 9:00 AM and my number was 81. Once you get the wrist band you can do as you wish so I put everything back in the car, had breakfast, bought his book and talked to a good number of folks.....kind of like a mini-Tea party.
Then around 30 minutes before he was supposed to start signing I went over and it was very well organized. They had sections of book aisles numbered so I ended up in the aisle marked something like 75-88 so those who got there early went first etc. Glenn came in a huge black motor home with his book logo painted on the side etc and the cheers went up.
He actually stands at a lecturn while signing and they have you open up to the proper page. He likes to sign (more like scribble his name) on the page with the American flag on it. He started by saying that we all know what is going on and he is going to outline tomorrow his plan for 2010 and we are all going to have to get actively involved in getting Washington to listen. He then started signing.
Boy was it an assembly line, Glenn being pleasant to everyone, photos, many had several books to be signed etc. but the line moved right along. All told in the alloted hour I think there were 500 wristbands issued and it was about right on the button. He then signed several copies for the store for folks who had pre-ordered them. He interacted with the crowd, gave a TV interview for the local show and we all cheered as he made some darn good points. It was just as much fun watching him and interacting with the folks in the store as anything.
Actually, when you figure it out, 60 minutes, time 60 seconds is 3600 seconds....divide that by 500 and it averages 7.2 seconds per wrist band.....so do not have unrealistic expectation. He spoke with everyone, shook lots of hands, but no one got a whole lot of time. I have to imagine by the time he does three of these events today he will be a tired puppy tonight. ( I stand corrected, he is signing in Orlando, Melbourne, Jupiter and Fort Lauderdale today and then three tomorrow)
They only let folks in the store who had wrist bands while he was signing and there was a line outside the store when I left.
Wanted to post this so some who may be on the fence wondering about crowds are encouraged. Get there early, get your wrist band, go have a meal and enjoy.
Off to the Villages tomorrow. Get the feeling there will be thousands there tomorrow...should be fun.

PS: Palin is coming on the 24th......likely to be a whole different story then, from what I gather they passed out wristbands 12 hours before she was supposed to sign and that was that. Lady said that all the merchants in the shopping center have been notified that the center will be totally jammed when she comes to town.

Hi,
Thanks. BTW, bought the real thick book, not the kids book, about the Christmas Sweater as a surprise for my wife. Read the first four chapters and get the impression it is a semi-true story about Beck and his childhood. In the preface he says the core of the story is true. Now I want to read the rest of it because it is really good only I have to do it when she is out of the house because she does not know I bought it for her.

Sounds like you had a nice time. I hope Palin comes to south florida...I would face the crowds for her.

Hi,
Go on the Barnes and Noble web site and it outlines her schedule. Are you on the east or west coast. My wife and I used to live in the Landings in Fort Myers.

Great report! :cheersmate:
I'm watching him now, obviously a taped program. He just interviewed Vince Flynn....one of my favorite authors. It was a great, great interview.
Want a full report from your event tomorrow, 5412.....enjoy yourself.
