There was no mention made of it, but this sounds suspiciously like he was battering her. I'll bet he hit her so hard she had to scrape the bowl and grease the tins.

Either that or he was a real angel [food].

Maybe its the only thing she knows how to cook.  Some people can be very narrowly focused sometimes.
