An Open Letter To My "Christian", "Family Values" Republican In laws:
Advertisements [?]Your adult sister needs financial help...again. And, we will, no doubt have to bail her out...again.
Don't worry yourselves. We won't be bothering you. Last time, when my husband (your brother) called, asking if you too could help out, you all had the same bullshit lines:
"We have to take care of our own family first."
"You can't get blood out of a turnip."
"I don't know if I will have a job next week."
Never mind, that one of you have no children, you and your spouse are gainfully employed, are on your second custom-built home, and buy a new car every other year.
Never mind that another of you have grown children, who never went to college, and have steady jobs.
Never mind that yet another of you have been steadily employed for 35+ years, refused to help any of your three children with college costs, have your mortgage paid off, and have enough money to buy an RV, two new sets of golf clubs, drive 200 miles round trip to your favorite restaurant, vacation in Hawaii, oh, and here's the best part: you were able to take a week off, without pay, so that you could attend a seminar in South Carolina (in your RV), so that you could continue your study on how to become a minister. And thanks heaps for telling sis when she did work up the nerve to call you that one time, that she should just get in touch with us anytime she needed help.
We're on to you. You don't give a damn.
For all the garbage the right wing likes to spew about families taking care of their own, it's more than likely they are identical to this bunch of hypocrites that I married into some 35 years ago. Out of their combined total of seven children, five of them are on welfare in one form or another.
Yet, not a one of them wants any of their tax money going to support a "nanny government".
Thanks a lot for reinforcing the fact that Republicans don't really give a crap about anyone but themselves. Enjoy voting for John McCain. He does have that "R" after his name, so he must have the same values as you.
Your pissed off, but not at all surprised sister in law, who married the only intelligent sane member of your family.
I can feeeeeeel the love for Christians in this thread. They're positively oozing with it. Did it ever occur to the OP that there might be several good reasons to stop handing cash to people who ask for it repeatedly? Kind of the whole 'get a job and be responsible' way of thinking?

1. You should really send them that letter.
Shame them.
I recently let my "God fearin', Christian" aunts have it for refusing to help my mom with my Grandfather while he was out of it with dementia, and died 2 months later. While he was alive they wanted us to leave him ALONE with my Grandmother! Told them all that fake ass boo-hooing for visitors to the funeral didn't fool anyone.
And I'm sure the scene you made at the funeral made your parents quite proud.

2. how true.
They chew you out for asking for help, and then are surprised when you tell them that the Christians you know refuse to help people out.
I asked the people at my church to help me find a job (NOT a loan or a handout) and they wouldn't do a damn thing. So I left and told everybody I knew that the Christians I knew were worthless as far as helping people. This happened at several churches.
Question: what kind of job did you tell them you wanted? Because seriously, 'welfare queen' is not an actual job.

3. My mother had the same experience with her church family.
She was a faithful member of her church for 70+ years. She died when she was 84 and the only and I mean ONLY person to take care of her in her last year and half was her 'ol heathen, atheist daughter - that'd be me. Not her 'christian' friends, fellow church goers, nor my brother's church-goin' children. Oh yes, they showed up at her funeral and I just wanted to tell them what lying hypocrites they are, but I didn't and now 4 years later, I'm sorry I didn't say something.
Poor, put upon you. The reason it fell to you is because you were probably the only one without a family and full-time job.

I notice the OP doesn't volunteer why the woman needs bailing out repeatedly, perhaps the reason for the family's attitude lies in that.

I use to be the Perpetual Fountain of Misfortune's Remedy for my entire family. I finally wised up. Being Christian doesn't mean being an open-ended money machine. There comes a point when you can damage yourself and your own family by allowing yourself to be taken advantage of, repeatedly. What kind of Christian would allow that to happen?
This Christian will give anything and everything to charity except my self-respect. Chew on that, DUmbasses.
-
If I were her I sure as $hit wouldn't post about this on a message board.

Right on the nail.
There is a difference between helping out family and becoming an enabler. Sometimes, the best and most charitable thing we can do is withold the easy charity until the other person gets his house in order.

Funny thing.......... during my recent trip to Texas, I returned to my home Church. I told them what was going on with me and they are keeping their eyes open for jobs for me. While I found one with the help of a long time friend, they were still willing to help. I KNOW that MY fellow Church-goers are there for me. I don't expect them to actually GET me a job, though. Perhaps that's where the OP's expectations are too high.

Reminds of the folks at the convenience stores on the Interstate.
"Hey, can you give me some money for gas? My family is in the car down the road and we just need enough to get us a couple hundred more miles."
"Well, how bout I just take my trusty ole gas can down there and we'll fill 'er up for you!"
"Uhhhh well, I would rather just get the cash from you .... you see, I don't like Shell gas ... I was gonna walk down the road here about 15 miles and buy it from Citgo".
"Oh, sorry, I won't give you cash but I'll be happy to give you and your family the gas you say you need".
Next day on DU; "I was needing gas and this Freeper at the gas station wouldn't give me ANY MONEY AT ALL!!!!111!!!! Sorry bastard was driving a Lexus and I'm homeless!" "Had a big Christian Fish on the back and a nassssty 'W' in the window" "Selfish bastards, all of them".

Could said DUmmie have possibly been asking for a job like; I need a job that will let me sit on my ass all day long posting on a liberal message board when ever I want and pays $100k/year with bennies. Why won't you people help me?

Yeah, I'd love to know the other side of this story. Something tells me that the DUmmie has burned some bridges and not learned any life lessons. I wouldn't loan them money either.

You bring up a good point...I was thinking of what the athiest DUmmie above who 'had' to care for her mother. She had been in the same church for 70 years...one can't help but wonder how many things the church returned to this woman over the years and maybe even helped her out until she had to move in with her daughter. I bet we don't get the whole story there either. I don't suppose the elderly mother perhaps actually requested to spend her final days with her daughter? Perhaps in an interest of one last attempt even to perhaps impress upon her heart with God's message. I sense bs

Notice the theme from the OP..."what can I get" from Christians. Taking but not giving. Have-nots demanding from the haves. Simple DUmmie socialism. :whatever:

Yeah, I'd love to know the other side of this story. Something tells me that the DUmmie has burned some bridges and not learned any life lessons. I wouldn't loan them money either.
Sounds like Tough Love to me...
-
Me thinks that the OP has gone to the family well many times and has had no behavioral change. Could be that the family is giving the DUmmy some tough love because the other road has shown to be a failure.
-
Amazing how they still haven't figured out the difference between a hand UP and a hand OUT.

You got THAT right. I suspect we have hit on the heart of the problem.

Agreed. I've been in tough positions in my life and my parents always helped me out (and they're evil republicans). I appreciated the financial help I got. I set my life back on track. Now, my parents know that now and then when they help me, especially with my house, that I do truly appreciate it. I always thank them over and over. I don't expect birthday or Christmas presents from either my mom or dad, because I'm fortunate enough that they've given me so much throughout the year.
If I wasn't appreciative of their help, they wouldn't give it and I wouldn't deserve it.

No surprise at all from a DUmmy in that.
It sums up their entire way of dealing with life.

Hey, DUmmies! Perhaps that is the recipe for raising a new generation that isn't dependent on everyone else for their well-being. You know, like DUmmies are.
-
You know, Contrary1 should be thanking her in-laws. It's a bad habit to get into and sets up poor thinking habits that only lead to more need for handouts.
As Napoleon Hill wrote: Every adversity, every failure and every heartache carries with it the seed of an equivalent or a greater benefit.
If we don't look for this seed, we never find it and thus it never grows.
And as Charles Haanel wrote in The Master Key System: The student who learns that power comes from within, that he is weak only because he has depended on help from the outside, and who unhesitatingly throws himself on his own thought, instantly rights himself, stands erect, assumes dominant attitude, and works miracles.
Beautiful! So Contrary1 and her husband are very blessed people. They have a great opportunity here.
