This grits DUmmy is apparently a high school teacher, contacted by a former student now in his late 30s. The grits DUmmy is so proud of this former student, who is nearing 40 and has accomplished exactly nothing with his life. Despite a couple of decades of majors, minors, and "focuses" (whatever that is) he's still a student, and I defy anyone to read the following and then explain what in hell he is doing:

I got an email from a student who I taught 20 years ago:
So I graduated from South Lakes and did my undergrad at the University of Oregon (a world away from Northern VA). I studied biology and minored in chemistry with a focus on ecology. After graduating I worked seasonal wildlife biology jobs for a while in CA, OR and CO. After a while it became clear that this was not really enough and I needed to go back to school. I had a weird epiphany one day about becoming a high school science teacher so I did an M.A.T. with a focus on biology. I didn’t get a job anywhere that I wanted to live so I ended up spending just under a year traveling and working in Costa Rica as an ecological/tourist guide.
When I got back to the states I ended up getting a job working for a museum in OR directing an NSF funded project that was a natural resource management and technology career exposure program for Native American students focusing on salmon mitigation efforts with a major cultural integration component. I did this for 5 years and I’m currently a doctoral student at Oregon State University in the Science and Math Education Department focusing on free choice learning. I want to help facilitate outreach and education efforts for watershed scale restoration projects, I’m looking at ways to reach diverse stakeholders in these endeavors, particularly private land owners. I’m researching collaborative efforts and mechanisms for making inroads into rural communities where agriculture/logging is king. I want to try and change the way people approach land use and resource extraction. Ultimately I want to help create/enact land-use policy that will help balance natural resource extraction with ecological conservation. These are big goals and I’m just staring my Ph.D. and I’m already aware that I need to narrow my focus but I’m trying to clarify my interests.
Basically conservation and the preservation of wild areas have been a passion all my life. I’m studying different aspects of what goes into generating personal interests and emotions towards different subjects. I can now look back and recognize that your class had a huge impact on me at a critical period of my life. ......
........blah, blah, blah, words and more words with zero meaning...blah
So here you go, 20 years later. I just wanted to make sure you know these things.
Thanks.
You never know. Ya know. I am utterly speechless.

You just read the kind of educational mumbo-jumbo that causes DUmmies to spend years, and many thousands of Dad's money, to pursue unmarketable, useless degrees. They just know that school, and all that goofy mumbo-jumbo above, beats hell out of working, and doesn't include any of those pesky, judgmental math subjects.
DUmmies are, without exception, ecstatic, even though not a single one understands anything whatever about what he just read:

1. Kudos on a job well done; and to the young person, also! n/t

2. You should take great pride in that letter.
Congratulations on being the kind of teacher that made a difference.

3. That's so cool
You must be beaming.
DUmmy OUTOTN doesn't know what the budding moonbat is doing, but is nonetheless brought to tears by the words "salmon", "ecological", and "land-use":

13. K&R.
Made me cry to boot.
This bonfire goes on and on with DUmmy after DUmmy congratulating the grits DUmmy on his protege moonbat.

Of course they're congratulating it.
Since DUmbasses are either teh ghey or look down upon "breeders" as bad for the environment/economy/etc.. this is the only way that they really reproduce more DUmbasses.
They're just congratulating grits on it's brand new, bouncing baby DUmbass.

Reminds me of my step sisters ex-husband. After all of their 20 something years of marriage we still can't figure out what he did/does for a living. He would talk about it all the time and we would look at each other and shrug.

Does anyone here know how to "focus on free choice learning"?
-
He's going to teach others to do nothing except make it impossible for ag people to make a living and care for the land. I like the part where he's "just staring [at] his PhD." Yeah, it's worked so far.
Like "onceupona..." it made me cry in my boots, too.

Grades don't matter only feelings?

I've run into quacks like this before. Guarantee you the protege moonbat doesn't know which end of a shovel is used to dig into the ground.
.

Only a DUmmy would be proud to inspire a student to complete multiple science degrees, resulting in a non-productive failure.
-
I'll bet money this professional student smokes weed regularly. Probably several times a day.
Hello longview.

I'm guessing that is some sort of student directed learning system, where the students decide what they want to study based entirely on their interests.

Definite Phd material. Sounds like something created by the "Dilbert Mission Statement Generator".

Let me add my welcome although it is off topic. I've always wanted to see Wyoming.

Free choice learning = internet degree.
I’m currently a doctoral student at Oregon State University in the Science and Math Education Department focusing on free choice learning
It's a made-up bs program that admittedly has no idea what they do:
Free-choice learning is a way of talking about the kinds of learning that occur when people believe that they have a choice over what, when, how and why to learn.
While we have made some headway on understanding the kind of learning that people may be engaged in when they visit museums, there is still a lot we don't know about how that learning occurs or how to facilitate and shape it.

And when he finishes his education, he can get a SS Disability check or just retire.

Oh my God, this was just this close to parody, until you realized it was for real. This is pure, unadulterated, uncut moonbattery in all its glory. My moonbat stepson isn't quite this bad, but this reminded me of him:
so I ended up spending just under a year traveling and working in Costa Rica as an ecological/tourist guide.
Yes, and MBSS got his degree and ended up working on a ranch, teaching tourists how to rock-climb. After that he became a waiter. Now he works at a call center. I was nowhere around when he was making college study choices, so I can't take any blame.
Welcome, Longview!

Anyone 'splain to me what an "ecological/tourist" guide is? Is it where you take a tour and keep off the grass or what?
-
Wow, he really HASN'T accomplished Jack Shit so far, not even a hitch with the Peace Corps, and his youth is gone forever. Gotta be a trust fund kid.

Sounds like a professional bum.

Great observation! He's been exposed!

South Lakes High School is in Reston, VA.
Just so you know where that idiot teaches.
-
All that education to so little effect.
PS Welcome longview!

His doctoral work sounds like an employment application for Earth Liberation Front........
Good luck making a living on that.....

On edit: Welcome Longview.....Wyoming is a great place!
