Gun Control and the Effects of Prohibition

Do you think that, like prohibition of alcohol, prohibition of guns would cause the same kinds of problems?

Discuss--

What gives with this "discuss" business?

Is stupid Melanie a schoolteacher or something?

1. My answer would be yes.

People who do own guns love their guns. You see how the NRA gets when anyone tries to even add gun control laws. Those people are not giving up their guns. It is a Second Amendment right, so, people would make their own guns if they were outlawed. That might not be the best idea.

2. Prohibition will not work

People that wanted a drink, got a drink.

People that want a gun, will get a gun.

Simple as that.

New bonfire.

Pretty boring so far. I would figure the phrase "gun control" would have induced a Pavlovian response in the masses.  :fuelfire:

7. Red herring.
Alcohol is regulated and a certain segment of the population is forbidden to imbibe until they reach a certain age. Also, sellers of alcohol must have a license to do so. No one is trying to prohibit guns. We do want gun owners to be licensed just like car owners are licensed.

We have those things you frakking dimwhit! By Federal Law you have to be 18 to purchase a long gun and 21 for a handgun. Also, ever hear of a FFL? You have to be licensed to SELL guns, but, just like alcohol, you don't have to have a license to buy one.

Can any of the talented and gifted sooper smarterests at the DUmp explain how gun related crime, particularly murder, is highest in the cities that have the strictest gun control?  Or that more murders per capita happen in GUN FREE ZONES?

What other rights clearly protected by the constitution should we license as well?
Should we be required to get permits to speak freely?
A license to go to church perhaps?

Maybe I shouldn't say that, some dumbass at DU may think it's a good idea.
