Hurricane Ida made landfall over Mobile, AL earlier today. Must be moving at a pretty good pace, because its already raining outside and doesn't look like its going to let up any time soon. What a mess.

So it looks like I'm going to get wet today. The library found the book they misplaced, so I can go pick up some new reading material. Yay. That's about the extent of my day.

Trying to get a flight to PHX to see Dad. Schedule conflicts. In nuclear power, one does NOT miss training. PERIOD.
Sometimes I really, really, REALLY hate my job.

Jeez. My normal day of routine suckage doesn't compare. I hope you can get something worked out soon.

It goes beyond that. I don't have any vacation left for this year, seeing how I only get two weeks until I've been here five years. Even if I were to try to defer my holiday until the end of the year, (because the holidays are just to friggin expensive to buy a ticket now), my schedule for January is as follows:
4-8 Jan-training
11-15 Jan-Diesel outage (12 hour days)
18-22 Jan-more training
25-29 Jan-Other Diesel outage
So the earliest I can get to Phoenix would be the end of January or first week of February. And I have no idea if he's going to be around that long. My original intent was to buy a ticket, and if things go south before that, pay the change fee and fare difference at that time.
I have no idea what to do at this point.

CRAP! That's a scary map...

Been there, done that. (Well not the nuclear stuff, but you get the gist.) I believe your original intent is a good one.
If it isn't your missed pay that is an issue, may I make a suggestion? You may very well qualify for FMLA, which protects your position if you have to be absent due to a serious medical condition of a family member. It won't pay ya, but they can't fire you for absences. That might be something you want to look into. I would be happy to provide you more info, if you would like.

It's not an FMLA issue, it's a "can I afford it" issue. No, Dad isn't on his deathbed yet, but it's damned close. I do NOT want to go through the rest of my life with that regret hanging over me.

Gotcha. I thought it was a "where do I find the time away from" issue.
And, I hear ya, been there done that, and sounds like you are on the right track and stuff.

Sorry to hear that, Sparky. I hope you can work something out.
I rented 'Up' on my way home from the library. It was cute. TD Ida seems to have diminished quite a bit and moved off to the east; we got no rain at all.
