Title: My IP address is really kooky
Post by: jinxmchue on November 09, 2009, 04:19:06 PM
Used to trace to outside St. Cloud, Minnesota, but then switched to somewhere in Nebraska (I think), followed by a little dinky place in northern Minnesota, and currently traces to Minneapolis.  I don't know why.

Could be caused by a number of things; the geographical information that a IP trace reveals is USUALLY the information provided by the device your modem/router connects to and isn't always where you think it is.

For example - my dynamic IP usually traces to a exchange that's about 1000 miles away from where I actually live.

Could also be the links your ISP is using. They may have upgraded or purchased a new link - or a link may have fallen over and they've gone to a backup.

Same thing here.  When I post from work, it shows up as Florida, because the corp routers go through there.

But home is home.

Okay.  Well, whatever the reason, it's quite fun for anonymity.   :-)

Mine never changes.

It always shows exactly from where I'm posting.
