Couple flee to save their unborn baby from social workers after girl, 17, is told she is not clever enough to look after her child
A heavily pregnant woman and her fiance have gone on the run after social workers threatened to take away their baby at birth.
Kerry Robertson, 17, and Mark McDougall, 25, had been told that she was not bright enough to raise their child and that they would have to give him up.
It was another blow for the couple, whose wedding this year was halted just 48 hours before the ceremony in a row over whether Miss Robertson was intelligent enough to marry.
Miss Robertson, who is 29 weeks pregnant, has since been told the couple will be allowed only a few hours with their baby - a boy they have already named Ben - before he is taken into care and placed with foster parents.
Desperate to keep their family together, the pair fled their home yesterday for a secret safe house.

WTF? I can see having social workers check on the baby's welfare, maybe, but to take the child shortly after birth and put him into the system as a foster child is :censored: ridiculous.

Throughout the years there have been plenty of legally retarded people who were great parents. There have also been plenty of genius people who were horrible parents. Whatever the problem is, they need to at least give her a chance. At worst maybe have a nurse stay with her the first week.

We can kick this up a notch, can a blind mother or deaf mother care for a child ?
What about woman that are have epilepsy, are mute due to any number of factors.
Imagine living in a state that refuses to marry a woman with epilepsy or force abortions on woman who are epileptic, This was a law within my life time.
Closer to home was the State of Connecticut that in the late 1960's could arrest and jail anyone giving by word or print information about birth control to other woman. A jail offence to have birth control pills on your person.
For us military wives we received our pills on the Sub Base in Rotten Grotten, we traveled to and from the base in a government bus and were warned to keep the pills at home and never discuss the pill with civilians.
I look back today and wonder why I a kid from Maine just excepted that law, perhaps because I grew up under the Blue Laws of New England.
Virginia in the early to mid 1970's had laws that allowed people to buy food on a Sunday, the law caused stores to drape cloth or signs over items that were not allowed for sale on that one day a week. Crazy law, one could buy the newspaper and magazines but not the Bible as that came under the law against selling books.
As we moved from State to State we military family's had to learn to adapt to the changing laws in each State.
Here's a good one, when I first started work men were paid more as they had a family to suport, woman were allowed to only work 40 hours a week and a woman who was pregnant had to stop working 6 weeks before due date.
Laws change, but there are still people out there that have no consern for the people that are effected, only their own adgenda.
I am not surprised at this case, I just hope the woman and her unborn child can run far enough to get out of the hands of the Crazys.

4. Do you regard the individual as more important than the Collective?
5. Are you currently gainfully employed?
6. Have you ever participated in a tea-party rally?
7. Are you pro-life?
8. Do you believe in the sanctity of marriage, and that it is only meant for one man and one woman?
9. Do you have at least a high school diploma?
10. Are you a Christian?
If you have answered yes to any one of these, then you are unfit to care for your child, and must therefore turn it over to the nearest fetal reclamation facility, pay a fine of no more than $3.7 quadrillion (or Ob50), and spend no less than 300 hours in a designated sensitivity training and recalibration center.

Even if she is not, the father of her baby is. I read the story, the same council denied them their marriage too. Something tells me they did that so he could not step in as guardian for both. This makes me think someone has a dog in this hunt that they would even deny the marriage at the midnight hour. Even if the mother is slow, the father is perfectly healthy and has his full facilities and is capable of caring for both and helping supervise and train his wife in areas she might need help in. This story reeks of something more going on. Either the couple is leaving something out or someone on that council has a beef with someone in their extended family.
