William Jefferson sentencing of 27-33 years recommended
By Jonathan Tilove
November 06, 2009, 9:04PM
Prosecutors on Friday night issued a memorandum recommending that former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson be sentenced to between 27 and 33 years in prison.
Jefferson, 62, will be sentenced by federal Judge T.S. Ellis III on Nov. 13.
The prosecution's sentencing memorandum suggests that Jefferson, who served 18 years in Congress, may have hidden resources and "poses a significant risk of flight,'' and ought to be immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after sentencing at the Alexandria, Va., courthouse.
If Ellis follows the U.S. attorney's office recommendations, Jefferson would face by far the longest prison term ever imposed for congressional corruption, dwarfing the sentences meted out in such famous scandals as Abscam, Koreagate and Wedetch.
In March 2006, Former Rep. Randy ``Duke'' Cunningham of California was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison for taking $2.4 million in bribes to help military contractors win government contracts. At the time, prosecutors described the sentence as longest ever handed down for a member or former member of Congress in a corruption case.
One more thing to hang around the Dems' necks for next November.

The most he'll get is a sternly worded speech from the judge and a slap on the wrist just hard enough to knock some of that money loose.

Not so sure.....Judge T. S. Ellis III is a Reagan appointee, and a 'Nam veteran pilot.......born in Bogota Columbia, and educated at Harvard.......worked for a "white shoe" firm with strong conservative leanings.......
Our kind of Judge......

I hope the heck you're right and I'm wrong.

I was thinking that a liberal judge would give him 5 at a Fed Farm, out in 2 1/2 and re elected the year after that. Glad to see there is a chance he'll do long and hard time.

As I understand it parole in the fed system is quite different than states........the best you can hope for is serving 80% of your sentance......most serve it all before release.

No "good time" where you get time back for all the time you are "good" ? Thought they still did that too.

I believe that "good behaviour" only applies in a state penal system......when you are sentenced to fed time, I think that you do it all, or nearly all of it.......

Yep--federal guidelines say you do at least 85 percent of your time. "Cold Cash" will be cold himself before he's outside the gates of a federal pen.

And that is a good thing.

He got 13 years http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2009/11/william_jefferson_sentenced_ye.html
Former Rep. William Jefferson was sentenced Friday to serve 13 years in prison for what the lead prosecutor described as "the most extensive and pervasive pattern of corruption in the history of Congress."
While the sentence by federal Judge T.S. Ellis III fell well short of the 27 to 33 years recommended by the government, it is by the far the stiffest jail term ever imposed on a member or former member of Congress for crimes committed while in office. ...

Therefore he'll serve a minimum of ten years.....at his age, he likely won't survive that term.......

We can only hope! Any congress critter that uses government resources, (ie. the Coast Guard), to retrieve his "stash of cash", during a national disaster, certainly deserves to go belly up in jail! I hope they put him in the cell with "Ben Dover"!!!!!!!!!111
