The unemployment rate has surpassed 10 percent for the first time since 1983 -- and is likely to go higher.
In this Nov. 4, 2009 photo, Sonja Jackson, of Detroit, holds a Employment Guide standing in line ...
Nearly 16 million people can't find jobs even though the worst recession since the Great Depression has apparently ended. The Labor Department said Friday that the economy shed a net total of 190,000 jobs in October, less than the downwardly revised 219,000 lost in September. August job losses were also revised lower, to 154,000 from 201,000.
But the loss of jobs last month exceeded economists' estimates. It's the 22nd straight month the U.S. economy has shed jobs, the longest on records dating back 70 years.
Counting those who have settled for part-time jobs or stopped looking for work, the unemployment rate would be 17.5 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994.

You knew with Dear Leader doing all the anti-business, anti-capitalist junk over the last 10 months it was just a matter of time. And this is just current rate as measured by recent unemployment. Add up those who have been looking so long they've dropped off the map and it's probably pushing 15%+ at minimum. And it's only going to get worse.
Obama = Miserable Failure

Bush's fault.

The unemployment rate is 19.8% in my county...don't know the state rate but it can't be to much better.
-
How's that stimulus working for ya, Obama? :censored:

He keeps propping up unemployment benefits too. Well, that's all good if one is collecting them. Lot's of people just out of school though who are looking for work too(and can't find it) or need the income because spouses have seen reduction in pay or lost their jobs and they have student loan payments too. Those people I really feel for since they can't sit on the gov. tit and are affected the most since they aren't likely to qualify for any of the current gov. giveaways(not saying they should, but putting it in perspective of his 'feel good' measures--but he pegged them right on didn't he--stay at home parents trying to enter the workforce and those just coming out of college(especially those who took loans or earned scholarships versus the gov. tit Pell Grant) are perhaps not as likely to be his constituents.
I get pissed about the work years I'm losing where I could be building a career.
I have only one potential lead now with a manager returning to her banking job who has asked me if I'd have an interest in the area she's returning too(she was laid off in the beginning of the year and just asked back). I'm going to call her today and see if we can sit down next week. Wish me luck, CC. It's the ONLY lead I've had in about 6 months of looking that has any potential because I actually can talk to someone on the inside already. :banghead:

This graph is behind a couple of months, but well worth looking at

The employment rate is between 80 and 89% for those who want a job and can find a job. That's bad news.
This nation may soon be in the mood to remove these anti-American democrats from power before the next election give us a chance to do so. A year is a long time when the nation is in pain and its founding ways are being murdered in cold, arrogant, and defiant blood.

IMHO, extending unenployment is the exact WRONG thing to do. Bear with me - but if you look at poverty and unemployment levels prior to when Welfare became a right, they were dropping like a rock (comparitively). By extending benefits, you make it easy for people to not look for work. The better solution would be to invest the money in major tax breaks to allow people to hire...
-
I don't know, but it seems to me that I remember that at least a couple or three weeks in October, there were some 500,000+ NEW jobless claims filed each week. There must be some really fuzzy math going on for the news to say that we only lost 190,000 jobs in October.

I didn't say I was for them, but that they were nothing but a feel good measure. They don't address the portion of the population that I mentioned and a good part of the unemployed are those trying to REENTER the workforce. Knowing this buffoon he'd recommend the dole for everyone instead of actually being friendly to business so jobs could be (truly) created--that's what I'd like to see! :thatsright:

Yup, article from October 22, 2009: New Unemployment Claims Rise More Than Expected to 531,000
Link to article (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/22/new-unemployment-claims-rise-expected/)
Based on those numbers, around 340,000 new employees must have been hired as others were being laid off. I wonder how many were seasonal workers...

I'm moody this morning, so I apologize for jumping. The gov't just keeps extending unemployment. Isn't this the third time now? The (original) Cap-n-Tax bill allows for up to 3 years of unemployment if you lose your job because of the bill. :thatsright:
Just cut our taxes in 1/2 at the corporate level and watch unemployment shring...

Which state? The local unemployment in my area is "officially" at 6.8 percent, which is right about the same as NH's 7.2 percent, but it sure feels like a hell of a lot higher, lemme tell ya.
You can check out your state and region HERE. (http://www.bls.gov/Lau/)

There's a difference between the unemployment rate the Govt tells us and the REAL unemployment rate. Last August, the .gov was stating some 9.4% or so, when in reality the REAL unemployment rate was hovering around 16-17%. What I do know is that in my area, jobs are scarce unless one wants to work retail sales, fast food, or the like.

Yes, government figures don't account for those who've stopped looking for work. Apparently that means that they're no longer unemployed or something. :mental:
Real unemployment (U-6) rose to 17.5% this month. Thanks Barry, you useless twit.

It's not just those who have stopped looking for work, but those who have simply fallen off of the unemployment compensation roles. I'm still looking for work and I haven't been on the unemployment roles for years.

Thanks for clarifying. That's a good way to put it.

Yep, I'm about to stop again if the lead or two I have doesn't pan out and opt to return to school instead. The funds will only support another 2 or 3 semesters of school at best though so...
No worries about jumping further up, Ch. I speak tongue in cheek sometimes and that's hard to read on a board. :cheersmate: I have a feeling how this guy is thinking and was reflecting that. I'd like to see business friendly actions as well. A lot of people WANT to work and don't like the gaps in the employment; these people, including me, are angry we can't find work and don't want money thrown at us in lieu of an actual job. :thatsright: I'm pissed at how he continues to decimate my field of speciality: finance. :banghead: :censored:

Hmmm...
A cursory look of Current Unemployment Rates for States and Historical Highs/Lows Seasonally Adjusted (http://www.bls.gov/web/lauhsthl.htm) shows that more often than not, whenever Republicans are in the W.H. and control Congress things seem rosier.
Just sayin'.

Either Barry wants this unemployment and recession to continue or he is a freightcar load less "smart" as his followers were touting.
If he keeps up this crap, it is intentional, as not even VP Biden is THAT stupid.

Yup; of course, those of us with the willingness to see reality as opposed to drinking Democratic kool-aid knew, even as the MSM were ballyhooing the "drop" from 10.2% to 10% last month, that it was all a mirage. Now we see the little "corrections" being surreptitiously snuck into place without anywheres near the amount of fanfare that initial, fraudulent report of a drop in unemployment got.
-
And yet AP Radio news was talking about today how there are signs the economy is getting better.
-
How can anyone expect private business to have the confidence to increase headcount when you have a Stalinist administration setting policy and a socialist Congress making laws? Unemployment will not decline until and unless the Republicans retake at least one house of Congress.

Not knowing what healthcare reform is going to cost them, not knowing what new taxes, including payroll taxes and possibly even the VAT tax might be enacted, an employer would be stupid to try and expand.

disagree. I think, even then, it will stay high, especially if all of the new taxes and regulations go through. Republicans started this bailout BS, remember?

True, but so far they appear to have been chastened enough - and to have taken sufficiently strong anti-bailout positions contra Obama - that we should be able to make them stick to it once they break the Democrats' lockhold on Congress.
-
At this point, Democrats want lots and lots of statism, and Republicans want not quite so much statism.
The Republican Party is off in a ditch until someone can present the plan for drastically removing government interference in just about everything while outlining the reasons why that interference is detrimental to our future. That's why, overall, I agree with bkg's assertion that simply getting Republicans back in charge isn't enough.

It's not if we're just going to go back to our old ways of passively leaving the governing up to the politicians; the one thing we should all have had seared into our minds by now is that politics is not a spectator sport, and if you don't speak up for yourself, no-one else will. As the old saying goes: God helps those who help themselves.

It's all posturing. Nothing more. They are not anti-bailout - most of them voted for it! They are anti-Obama because he's a Dem... no other reason. If the roles were reversed, they'd be doing the exact same thing, only slower.
Fawk the GOP and the DNC; they are birds of a feather.
