Title: Friday Flurries
Post by: NHSparky on November 06, 2009, 07:32:10 AM
Ever-so-light snow and 29 this morning.  Changed to mist as I got closer to the coast and further south.
Not enough to accumulate, let alone stick.

Mid-40's the next few days for highs, mid-20's at night.  Reprogrammed the thermostat so that house is at 55 when I'm not at home or asleep, but up to 70 for an hour in the morning and a few hours in the evenings (until about 10).  Should save a little bit of heating oil that way.  Just under 3/4 of a tank left, so that SHOULD (emphasis on SHOULD) last me until after the holidays, but if prices are going up like they have lately, that might not necessarily be a good thing.

Pretty light day at work today--mode preps and starting the plant up.  Should hopefully be closing the breaker late Sunday or early Monday.

Sunny and warm here in the Sandhills of Nebraska.

Temperatures expected to be in the 70s through the weekend, clear or only slightly cloudy skies, and then on Monday, temperatures expected to drop into the mid-50s.

Sunny and cool here today.   Have to run a couple errands later, and I'm hoping we might take a trip up to the outlet mall this evening...my boys need shoes!

Thinking about growing my hair out....but then thinking about dealing with the pain-in-the-buttedness that involves makes me think again.   Either way, I need ot decide, because I either need a haircut or major trim so I don't look so scarey!

Chance of rain today.  It is Friday!  Yay!  Work is going well, I should have plenty to do for the next couple weeks at least  :cheersmate:

Sunny and 55 for a high. Was in the 20's overnight. Keeping the thermostat at about 66. It is lower then previous years.

I have a sick kid home. Fever and breathing issues. He's going to the doc in about an hour. Kinda ruins the weekend since I was going to be the 2nd photographer at a wedding tomorrow, but he can't go to his aunt's like this so the older kids are going to their aunt's house for the weekend and I'll be pulling duty with the sick little one all weekend. Oh well.

He's in the higher risk factor with the flu stuff since he has asthma so since we are under 24 hours since this started I'm going to see if we can get tamiflu for him to hopefully lessen the severity if this is a flu of any kind. We'll see. Going to head over the Giant Eagle tonight and get my 29 cent a lb turkey for thanksgiving. :cheersmate:

Otherwise, I'll just clean around my sickie during the day today.

Looks like another beautiful day in North Central Texas. Highs around 80, sunny and a little breezy. Time to catch up on things that I've missed over the last two drug-filled days.

Fridays are good.

Hey, Rob, sir, question, given it's in your line of business.

As you might know, I was temporarily on blood-pressure medication (taken off a few weeks ago), and had to use a pharmacy.

Not exactly a common experience for me, using a pharmacy.

I went to one of the pharmacies in the big city, inside a Hy-Vee grocery store.

The name-plates indicated 4 pharmacists and 8 pharmacy technicians and "interns" were on duty at the time.

It was about 5:00 p.m. on a Friday.

I personally eyewitnessed something I had never seen since I was wandering around the socialist paradises of the workers and peasants with free medical care for all--there were hordes and hordes and hordes of people jamming up against the pick-up counter, pushing and shoving and elbowing.

As I wasn't in any hurry, and had no where in particular to go, I just sat at a table and watched.

Blew the mind, the great masses surging forward as if a bunch of ill-clothed Ukrainian workers and peasants getting into a bread-line.

The big city (population 20,000) by the way has lots and lots of pharmacies, scattered all over town, some of them free-standing, others inside large retail establishments.  So it's not like there's a shortage of places to get drugs.

I sat there and stared, open-mouthed, at the spectacle for more than half an hour.

Does it get like this, at your place?

I've never seen such a phenomenon; even in Lincoln, where I was occasionally prescribed penicillin (like, about once every four or six years), I was always the only person at the counter, and had ample opportunity to pass the time chitchatting with the pharmacist as he or she filled the order.

This was like, wow.

We are always busy, and with the Medicare part D plans making it easier for seniors to afford medication, it simply gets crazy busy. Throw in a few million people on Welfare and you have the typical "first of the month" rush.

Sunny again today.....much more of this and we will go into sun-shock.  :-) It's still cool though which is fine...at this point I don't care if it's below 20 degrees if the sun is out and there is no precip falling from the sky.

Have finished one report, but need to do a driveby shoot before I can do the next one.

Trying to figure out how motivated I am to do stuff ....... :uhsure:

I quit work at 11 a.m. on Fridays (unless the sky is falling), but I've gotta ton of honey-dos to do.

Mrs E's towel rack decided to fall off the bathroom wall, so now I've got a 3-inch diameter hole in the drywall to fix. And the bathtub in the basement is clogged - must be all that damned dog hair  :banghead: from giving the pooches their bath after they dig mega-holes in the ground and get filthy. That, and swim in the pond and get pond scum in their fur.  :banghead:

So that means a trip to Lowe's to buy a snake. (Liquid Plumber was COMPLETELY ineffective.) And joint compound, tape, and if they can color-match, a gallon of paint that matches the bathroom. And the usual paint supplies.

The good news is, this is a brand-new Lowe's that just opened up last weekend. Ain't never been in it yet.  :hyper:

I want to know how much time you spend in there, and how much you buy that isn't on your list.  :-)

I like going to Lowe's. It's never a quickie trip.... :whatever:

Don't forget to buy a bathtub drain removal tool. They're pretty handy in these instances.

A screwdriver took out the removable screen. Everything else is molded in there. A thinner snake will fit, but that's about it.

Well my guy just has a croupy type thing--not real bad either and his fever overnight(doesn't have one now) likely knocked it on its hiney so....hopefully we are on the upswing. Damn, but that doctor's office was busy though--40 minute wait to get to the back!

His pediatrician pointed out to me that the hoarseness I've had is the same thing after I told her I'd had something on and off that got worse over the last week without a fever for the most part. Saves me a trip to the doctor.  :-)

So we basically were told to watch him(because he has asthma) and otherwise just ride it out. She said the 'big bad flu' has started out like this, but usually there is a red throat(whether it is sore or not yet) present too and they deteriorate quickly after initially getting better so hoping he does well through the night and we have avoided that(for now). My youngest is the one I worry about getting that the most because of his asthma.

I'm sick today. I knew something was wrong with me when I woke up during the night and it hurt to move my eyeballs. I am laying in bed right now feeling guilty about all the stuff I should be doing around the house. Sometimes I think I feel better then I sit up and decide to get out of bed, then I feel like I'm going to faint and my head starts pounding. I also look like I'm dead because I'm so pale right now.

On a side note, it's a beautiful day. High is suppose to be around 70.

Been slinging hot dogs and nachos since 7:45 am for our food drive fund raiser.  Tomorrow should be fun, tunneling under my boyfriend's house to assist in replacing his bathtub drain.  Woofreakinghoo.

Everything.  Fix my laptop, fix my car, how do I send an email, how do I buy a plane ticket online, find me a recipe, how do I do this, how do I do that.  She's a 40-year-old child... completely useless.  Doesn't help that I'm on the phone half the time with her talking over my shoulder.

This was like, wow.

What the heck is a pharmacy intern ?  Some Senior in highschool that will be going to college next year.?

The pharmacy I use has changed names 3 times in the last 10 years, The owner of the second change in ownership in now in prison for killing a man in his barn with a sledge hammer. I am sure Sparky remembers that one, Brooks was the name of the owner.

The new owners in the last 2 years or so are  an arm  of Rite Aid and have something going on there.

When it comes time to renew my RX we can call in anytime 24/7 and leave a message and pick it up the next day.  If the prescription runs out THEY fax the doctor to extend the time limit. sounds great except often they forget to send a fax and I have to wait without  full medication for a day or two.  Means another trip to the pharmacy and a chance to on impulse buy something else.

Some times the medication does nothing for me and I wonder if they are buying counterfeit melds.  Big money in black market drugs and even the largest pharmacy's can get taken--not to mention the patients.

Last week I was told my heart doctor had refused to renew my medication.

I was on the phone talking to his office off and on as they tried to figure out what they the pharmacy were talking about. The doctors office called to tell me I was finally all set but not one peep from the Pharmacy to tell me my medication was in and available.

I have had two friends that brought home the wrong mediacation, and or the wrong amount of medication.

Three times I was told that my medication was not in stock, or some other excuse.  I do get two days emergency medication in advance however. Not in stock, darn this medication is as common as aspirin for heart patients.

I have traded with these people for years and hate to change pharmacy's but this has become a problem for me that should not happen.

It is a shock to go from Military health care to civilian, never once did I ever have a problem with military pharmacy's.

Never have I seen what you describe in this neck of the woods, perhaps the pharmacy has no call in service or refuses to refill a week before the due date.  Could be they want to keep people waiting so long they do pick up an extra item or so.

I can understand your reactions to watching people in that pharmacy, I too am a people watcher and wish I had been there to share your experience.

One thing I have never experienced is a Ukrainian bread line.  :-)----Execlent description.

Afternoon, everyone.

Got off work at 1 with the plan to go donate blood but they sent me away because my iron level was too low. Doh! I will try again in a few weeks.

I bought my Thanksgiving turkey. Actually, it's a turkey breast which is perfect for my small family. This will be my first time hosting Thanksgiving dinner. I might be planning a little too early but better safe than sorry!

Now I have the best comfort food in the oven...Bazillion Calorie Casserole. It's worth every calorie if you ask me.  :-)

I like my hash brown casserole.  It's mostly Velveeta and sour cream with an onion or two thrown in, but its tasty.

Last time I tried to donate blood, it took me nearly three hours.  I have no idea why; maybe I was dehydrated.  I haven't donated blood since.

The last time I donated blood, it took about an hour and half. I do the power red donation which takes a little longer than whole blood. But it still took way too long because the guy didn't act like he knew what he was doing plus the machine kept being weird.

Sort of annoying. But I like being able to help out so I try to give when I can.

I was warned against donating blood after my last shunt replacement in 2003.  My blood pressure is usually in the low normal range and I don't need any more problems.  I'm really paranoid about having more eye problems, so there's another excuse.

The Red Cross laughs at me when I ask about donating blood. (I lived in Germany and ate English beef for close to 15 years - pretty much all the Eighties and half of the Nineties.)

Maybe that's why I drool at night and dream of chewing cuds.
