I'd trade the "Take that, Asshole!" win in NY23 a bazillion times over to have won tonight in Maine
People who vote to deny civil rights to others should be doomed to have theirs taken away.
But that would mean the primitives wouldn't have any civil rights.

3. Me too, of course. Civil Rights should NEVER be voted on. We need to fix that somehow.
It's ****ing ridiculous to ask "permission" state by state.
Gay people are citizens like every other one of us, their rights are OUR rights.
What makes this unique is that "marriage" is regulated by the states - what a pain in the ass.
I wish I was a brilliant Constitutional pit bull lawyer to figure out how to get this DONE.

5. I wonder if there'll be a court challenge to this referendum the way there was one in California after Prop. 8 won.

6. No excuses from the Maine citizens who voted for this monstrosity--none!
The Down Easters hope Stephen King goes all psycho on your pathetic pasty keisters.

7. Absolutely!! I hear that gay marriage legislation is coming up in NY and NJ. That's the good news...
The bad news? A Repuke is now governor of NJ, and with things the way they are looking in NY's gubernatorial race, the Dems risk another Repuke governor there...
I am so very proud of Maine's governor, though. He had a change of heart and really went to bat for gay rights in that state. Though he's not running again, I commend his hard work on this issue.
There's still so much work to be done in this area. I cannot believe that Iowa is more progressive than Maine on this.

8. I totally agree with you regarding Baldacci. He's a hell of a man to do what he did.

Once again, when did marriage become a right?

That actually does not make a damned bit of sense, and breaking it down it looks like it actually comes closest to meaning the opposite of what Stinky apparently intended it to mean.

Butt pluggers do have a right to get married. Just not to each other.
