Only 24 days 'til Thanksgiving!
Sun is shining, supposed to hit 60 today.
Mr Flame injured himself yesterday...he was hanging ceiling fans for our neighbor yesterday, and came off the step ladder wrong...messed up his ankle, hurt his tailbone, scratched up his arm. Of course "he's fine". :whatever:
I told him if I don't see a marked improvement by Wed, I'm taking him to the Dr, even if he's kicking and screaming!
Discussion topic: T-day plans? Not doing much here...invited our neighbor to join us, as her husband is TDY until the end of the year. Usually I'd try to get together with my sister and her family, but she's blown me off one too many times for me to make the effort this year. She has literally driven within 2 miles of my house 8 times since August, and hasn't been compelled to even meet up or stop by for 5 minutes. She live 3 hours away, and we haven't seen each other since January.
-
Topic: Probably help out at the Legion or somewhere with turkey dinners. Don't have many plans of my own. Might make a small turkey breast for lunches, etc., but that's about it.
Staring out at my lawn (or what SHOULD be my lawn if there were no leaves on it). Getting ready to hit the shower to be over at lawyer's office at 8. This ought to be a hoot.
-
I'll probably be cooking..as usual. I don't mind...prefer it that way. It satisfies my more control freakish side! LOL Always like to find someone who could use the companionship to come to the house, but I can't think of anyone in either circle who qualifies so probably will just be immediate family.
Cold out today. Have a headache this morning. Had a blast up north and at a Halloween party this weekend:-)
-
It's actually kinda... sunny. I'm sure that it is a trick of some kind, lol.
Quiet day today. Some applications to fill out and some housework and updating my dry erase "House" calender.
Weekend was sort of a blur. We went and saw Ben Folds in Madison Friday night and it was a fantastic concert! Just him on stage with a piano. He had one guy come out and play a percussion thing at one point to accompany him. (It was wierd, sound like a drumset but it was a wooden box they sat on with amplifiers) His opening act was an amazing Aussie pop singer with a voice like an angel.
The rest of the weekend went like a blur. Trick or treating Saturday night with the Mancub. I got dressed up in an old costume and relearned how fricking heavy a leather mantle and a sword and dagger can be when you are walking a few miles wearin 'em. :-) He was dressed as a clone trooper.
I cannot believe it is November already. Yeesh. Thanksgiving is going to be small and family orientated this year. Just us four and close to home. There is a lot to be thankfull for this year, as bad as the year has been.
-
I will be cooking T-day dinner on Friday or Saturday of that weekend. So I can eat a GOOD one. Headed to the boyfriend's family for Thanksgiving, and well, their food is YUCK-O.
-
Very excited about the days off that accompany thanksgiving :cheersmate: I'm hoping to beat my October billing, but since this is generally a slow part of the year, made worse by the slowing of the economy, I expect it to be a challenge. Daylight savings is great, I feel like I slept in an extra hour :-)
TOTD: Likely just immediate family, but my aunt and her husband, kids, and grandkids may join us if she and her in-laws are having issues. I personally love big family feasts, the more people the better.
-
TOTD: Turkey at the folks for lunch and my dad's mom's house for dinner. Massive dressing and pie consumption, as well as, football watching forecasted. Going to shoot is in the plans for sometime that week also.
-
The girlfriend and I are going to Seattle for vacation over the T-day holiday. We'll probably go up to British Columbia on Thursday, see the sights and eat a lot.
-
Fantastic weather here, supposed to be in the 70's all week.
I'm sore as hell, I stacked and restacked a cord (I could only load 1/2 a cord at a time in my truck) of unsplit Almond, and then split about half of it on Sunday. It was only $125 a cord!!!!! :hyper:

I hate you. Split, delivered, mixed wood up here is still $250 for green, $275-300/cord for seasoned. Cash price for heating oil is up to $2.50/gallon.

That is cheap. $100 a rick here for black oak or pecan.

Must be why I've never heard of it. Nobody buys in lots that small, unless they have Mass plates and are only coming up for the weekend.
The local Cumberland Farms sells little bundles of firewood for $6. There's usually enough in there to last about 15 mintues, or for the tourists to enjoy one hot chocolate before beddie-bye time.

Yeah, firewood isn't as necessary here in OK as it is in NH. Plus, the availability of firewood-type trees is an issue for supply.

My parents have a FP with a stove insert at their house. Their current next-door neighbor, who grew up in the house that her parents sold her, decided that she wanted all of the trees out of the backyard. My father got the wood--15 to 18 cords of it. Combined with the 6 or 7 he's got ready to burn this year (of which he may get 3 or 4 cords burnt), he says that he won't have to buy wood for 3 to 4 years. I think more along the lines of 5 to 7. The stuff from the neighbor's lot is maple and oak, primarily.

Niiiiiiiiiccccee!!! 5 years of no heating bills!
Oh, what I wouldn't give for that.

For Thanksgiving we are thinking about inviting all the guys that work with my husband (and their families) that moved to CA from Dallas (there aren't that many) that don't have other plans to our house. I may regret this but I am going to do it.
Halloween was amazing here in our new neighborhood. Six other families (they invited us to join) set up a table at the end of the street (to block off the cul-de-sac). We each have our own bowls of candy (with a ton of refills, we ran out long before the "regulars" did) and have the kids get in line and get their own candy. We sit and drink. They had a screen set up and were showing old horror movies. One neighbor had a counter and counted the number of kids (she counted over 800). I found at least two sets of neighbors that "think like me" if you know what I mean. :hyper: My youngest had a friend over that spent the night. Her parents came over and took them trick or treating for the first hour then my husband took them for awhile. My older daughter had a friend that moved to CA when we did (her mom is my friend Deb who's husband works with my husband) and two boys came over from school. My youngest dressed as Alice in Wonderland and my older daughter (and her friend) dressed as a nurse from Silent Hill.
Here is a picture of the homemade costume that they copied. I haven't downloaded any pictures yet.

Here is the picture of the Alice in Wonderland costume that my youngest went as. She didn't need a wig because her hair is just as blonde as the wig.

My Mom just called, she informed me that they are coming for Christmas and so is my brother. This should be fun yet maddening at the same time.

Chimney guy just called and put me on the schedule for Sat morning @ 7:30am. Stove will finally be in! now I just need to finish rebuilding the carb on Grandpa's splitter so I can finish splitting what's left! :-)
and only 2 months until the holiday season is OVER!!!!!! :cheersmate:

They still run their gas furnace, but not all that often, so they still do have heating bills. Just not big heating bill$.
Now, if I could convince my father-in-law that he needs to get a FP insert, things would be good. That's the one thing he's lazy on--calling around for prices on one.

Craigslist. Picked up my Lopi insert for $550. :cheersmate: Flue is killing me, though. :uhsure:

Speaking of Minnesota in the middle of winter, I may be heading up to Minneapolis at the end of December for a conference. Anyone know any cheap places to stay? And how many layers of clothes should I expect wear? :p

Where's the conference? Let me know and I can probably make some recommendations. Oh - and define "cheap!"
December? Bring 32.56 layers.
-
I'll be roasting a Butterball 'n fixins for a couple of friends and an elderly gentleman from church who is alone. Gotta get the carpets cleaned - the dogs have made a mess of 'em.
Drove 552 miles yesterday in picking up my tuba from the repair guy and dropping off my bass trombone for some work. Repair guy spent a few minutes with my euph - the valves have NEVER been quieter or faster.
-
Driving down to Hatteras Island, NC for the week and picking up the Mother-in-Law in Norfolk VA on the way (we're flying her from Cleveland to Norfolk). Love the beach no matter the season -- cold or hot!

Downtown area in Minneapolis at the Hyatt Regency. We have a special rate of $99 a night, but less than that would be great. Not expecting it though. It's December 27 to January 2.

TOTD: I'll be working. I forgot what shift -- I think 1-9pm. :p

Great memories from my childhood, going to Buxton for summer vacation!!!
The sun is out....2 days in a row!!!!!!
:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Makes me feel motivated to do stuff.....just not to clean the garage that the other half wants to do. :uhsure: There's spiders and webs out there. :o :o :o It's going to take a couple of days... :(
Have been doing reports since 7:30. Very tough to do a report on a 3100+SF house built in 2003 and never lived in. REAAAALLLLY weird.... 30 lot subdivision...only 4 houses built....in 2003...none have ever been occupied. Creepy. House should be around $300K and it would be lucky to sell for $200K.
Going to start cooking here in a bit. Making a bundt carrot cake...and a chicken casserole, that my friend adapted from a verrrry boring recipe, and I'm changing it up a bit more. I'm hoping it kind of turns out like the innards of a chiken burrito with rice instead of tortillas.
Thanksgiving we are spending with friends. It's kind of potluck....and not yet sure what I all I will be doing. Know that I'm going to do a baked brie in puff pastry, New Orleans corn pudding, and not sure what else.
-
Thanksgiving? I'll be doing the same thing I do every day here Pinky, try to take over the world.
Seriously tho, I'm sure the chow hall will put on some kind of special meal. Hopefully AFN will show some decent football.

100 a rick??!?!?!?! Damn you guys are getting screwed! The same guy is selling green Almond for $100 a cord. The seasoned stuff is a 2 year season, from the storms in 2007 that knocked over roughly 1/3 of the trees in the orchards around here, and we have ALOT of Almond orchards.
Oh, he wanted to make "sure" I got a cord and made me pile as much as possible in each load.
Damn stuff is friggin heavy. My arms are dead today.

Take it!

Yeah, that's what I figured. Oh well. I haven't been to M/SP since I was about 6, and all I saw was the airport. Should be fun.
-
I'm gonna try to go home to Arkansas for Thanksgiving. Sitting around in shorts with the A/C on here in Florida on Thanksgiving is'nt my idea of fun. Mind you, being able to jog on the beach to work off that feast is a benefit to being here.
-
Yeah, that's what I figured. Oh well. I haven't been to M/SP since I was about 6, and all I saw was the airport. Should be fun.
Hope you don't smoke......
MSP CAN be fun, but dangerous, too. Before I left, the downtown area had turned into a shit hole. Stay OFF of Lake Street.
-

I am personally not paying $100 for it. Only the suckers are...

Lake is about 3 miles south of downtown. But otherwise, I concur.

they'll get you about 30% for taxes, I bet.
Drop me a note if you have time for a drink... or... in my case.... a really crappy O'Douhl's.

Rick? 'Splain?
You're not alone, I've never heard of a "rick of wood" either
