Second hand account....
My girlfriend's sister cleans houses for people. One of the persons she cleans for had the H1N1 Flu. In fear of getting ill, the sister went to the local county health dept in order to obtain a vaccination. She was declined because she wasn't pregnant, she was not a child, not Black or Hispanic. This is BLATANT discrimination against her simply because she was white.
While I won't take the vaccine myself, I don't see why a person would be rejected simply due to their race.

was on the radio yesterday as well... Man called in saying his daughter was turned away because she wasn't a minority.
I've done no research to validate the claim.

Mrs. doc is just getting over H1N1, and although she has been ill for a week, it is being grossly over-hyped.......our doctor advised that unless you have a severely compromised immune system, H1N1 is no worse than any of the garden variety "type B' flu strains.
When I brought up the "1000 fatalities" that the media and the administration has been touting, his response was......."what they are not telling you is the mortality rate for other forms of flu".......which are likely the same, or worse, for high risk individuals".

I haven't heard of any discrimination but it wouldn't surprise me....

Doc, that is true. The normal seasonal flu kills some 32,000 people every year.

Around here the first batch is going to elementary school kids, and folks with certain diseases.......so far no racial implications.

Farmers Branch swine flu shot clinic ignores risk criteria

On a day when Dallas and Tarrant counties prepared to dispense precious doses of H1N1 flu vaccine only to those at highest risk, a clinic in Farmers Branch offered the vaccine to anybody with $20 and the patience to wait.
The state health department said Thursday it would investigate the Flu Shots of America clinic.
"We are looking into the situation, but if an entity has misrepresented itself and is not currently focusing on children and pregnant women – those most at risk – then that concerns us," spokeswoman Carrie Williams said.
Jeff Vitt, owner of Flu Shots of America, said his clinic has done nothing wrong.
"We are so integrated as a society that we are all high-risk," he said Thursday night. "We did a lot of the children and people who were pregnant or worked in the health care industry or had underlying health conditions."
My company is scheduled to have them on site to do company paid vaccinations next week....Now, the uppity ups aren't so sure.

I can understand people with chronic diseases, pregnant women and children, especially with the limited supplies. Those all make sense. It's the black/ hispanic thing that irks me...

I hear ya. What I was trying to get at is that this clinic is selling the shots for $20, and they don't care what your health is like, or what your race is, as long as you have that $20. The STATE is p'od because the STATE apparantly didn't order like this Medical Group did, and wants an investigation. Quite frankly, I am wondering if someone is gonna pull up that Federal Emergency thingy and rip the shots away. Which, would definately tick off my company, as we already paid for the amount of shots we are administering next week.

We're due for the regular flu shots at work in a couple of weeks. The company pays for them and told us to go find our own if we want the pig flu shots.

I wish we had done the same dang thing.

They wouldn't give you one anyway....you are too old....

I read a headline a few days ago that said we were "sharing" our supply of the H1N1 flu vaccine with Europe.
So I guess our evil costly capitalist healthcare system has to prop up the wonderful socialized free healthcare system of Europe. What's Europe going to do when we go down the drain?....for that matter, what are we going to do?

Oh yes, they would......... IF I wanted one. I have a chronic disease which impairs my immune system. But, thanks, anyways. I won't take it if I was offered one. Furthermore....... who's older??
