Public Option: RIP

Well, that's it. Neither the Senate bill nor the House bill will have a robust public option. Instead, they only offer a pseudo-public option that is only available to the uninsured and deliberately set up to fail.

In the meantime, we get stuck with a mandate to buy private health insurance or face either fines or extra taxes, depending on which version of the bill passes conference.

This is NOT change I can believe in. This is a sell-out. And Big Insurance is being rewarded for bad behavior - their squawking mercenaries at the August townhall meetings have had the desired effect of killing the public option.

How is Barack Obama going to explain this to Sasha and Malia?

2. only available to the uninsured?

So does this mean it's available if I drop coverage with my employer, or do I have to quit my job or get fired to qualify for it?

6. You will prob ably have to die to qualifty for it

They're putting on so many restrictions and hurdles that it will basically be meaningless to the majority of Americans -- and to the insurance comnpanies.

3. calm down. That's our toe in the door. In 2010 we can get enough people to fix it. Let's work on that.

(smiley face--I'm disappointed, too.And i can't talk about Obama's role, I'm too angry.))

4. Get your helmet on for incoming fire......But I basically agree with you

It's shameful that they felt like they had to neuter the public option, which was already a major compromise for those who wanted a real solution of single payer.

5. Sadly, I drank one cup too many of the "Obama-Hope-Change-Democrats" Kool Aid.

This morning has been like one giant sobering cup of black coffee.

Ha ha.

That's what I fear.  This is what the libs always want.  They say they want a LITTLE bit of something when in fact they want a whole lot of something.

Slippery slope and all that.

Well, I'm mystified at whatever it is, that makes the primitives think they're "going to get enough people to fix it" in 2010.

I hope enough of y'all who have reps and congress folks who will support it get on the phone to them to express your displeasure.  I know my elected officials won't support it.

I usually put a bit of pressure on it and keep increasing it until it moves.   :-)

I think Fuller Brush is still around, but they stopped door to door selling decades ago......I see Fuller products at Ace Hardware here locally, so they seem to have gone legit.....or were acquired by someone that is just using the name......

The bizarre world they exist in where what they believe is what must be real.
My hope is that once the exact details of the bill on the floor become known it will be an anchor around the neck to many dems.
Look for some chicanery to bypass normal procedure and have votes almost instantly.

You know, I don't think I ever heard the phrase "public option" until the tea parties start going this summer.  I checked google news going back to 2000 and they give an interesting chart these days:

link to google news search for "public option" 2000-2009 (http://news.google.com/archivesearch?as_user_ldate=2000%2F01&as_user_hdate=2009%2F12&q=public-option&scoring=a&hl=en&ned=us&um=1&q=public-option&lnav=od&btnG=Go)

My guess is that most of those earlier mentions of public options had to do with stocks, or something unrelated to health care.

+1

Not once have a feared for my wife's safety while at home alone.  For one, she's a better shot than I am.  But that wouldn't matter; it would be far, far more entertaining to see my other two babies in action if they thought for one second that she was in danger.  Just ask the fellow from Directv who made the mistake of not knocking before coming in the back door during installation.  That poor men spent the rest of the day outside.

At any rate, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

If you go over and read this original thread, you can see there is a WHOLE LOT of unhappiness around.  I wonder if we'll see a great many fresh faces next year in congress?   Getting rid of these 20, 25, 30 + year career politicians would go a long way.
