'A gunman approached a North Hollywood synagogue this morning and shot two people before fleeing, according to police, who are investigating the attack as a hate crime.
The shooting occurred at 6:20 a.m. at the Adat Yeshurun Valley Sephardic synagogue in the 12000 block of Sylvan Street.
Two men about 30 years old were each shot in the lower torso and were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, according to an LAPD spokesperson. The LAPD described them as Jewish.
LAPD sources told The Times that the gunman approached the victims as they were about to enter the temple for morning prayers. The sources said the gunman pulled out his weapon and fired. Considering who hates Jews/Israel in this country - Muslims, Southern racists and liberals - I'm putting my money on this being a liberal or a Muslim.
And you know, it's funny that after 8 years of the war on terror and the liberals claiming we're promoting hatred of Muslims, these things don't happen as frequently at Mosques in America. Imagine that.

Uh, not anymore. The KKK started in the South, but when they peaked in the 1920s, they were concentrated in Indiana, not the South. The KKK has a presence up North than in the South.

During the time I was stationed in Orlando, (not typical of the south, I know), I saw more co-mingling of the races than I have seen in northern areas.

Many of those Northern cities are segregated. I mean look at Philadelphia or Boston. Very segregated and I know this from visiting there.

That was kind of my point. I think there are as many if not more racists in the north. Look at all the major liberal cities, sure they enact laws to "benefit" minorities, but then they do their best to keep them in there place.

not quiet right. Jewishness is indeed a race, however watered down it is. Israeli may be a better way to put it, although even that is difficult. Seems tha damned Romans scattered the people of Israel a ways back. You have to have Jewish blood in the family tree, traced on the female side, to be thought Jewish.
I am myself a "jew" (with a small letter) as my mother was from a non-practicing family back in Kiev. The family had not practiced in some 200 years, yet married within the faith, during the Czars and then the Soviets. I married a lapsed Catholic from Wisconsin, and so my boys are not.
Even if I got a wild hair and become a practicing 'Jew' (with a capital), my children would still not be thought so, even if they chose the faith as well. If they settled down with a nice Jewish girl from Brooklin, however, their children would be.
You can become a jew. You can't become a Jew.

Has anyone thought that the victims were shot for another reason and the location of the shooting could have been anywhere.?
Question for you Dutch, if my grand mother is Jewish would that not make my mother and I Jewish.? All daughters born in the family would be Jewish and only if my daughter married a Jew would not her sons then become Jews.?
What happens when a woman converts to the faith, is she less a Jew then those born into the blood.?
What ever happend to that small tribe somewhere in Africa that claimed to be Jewish direct descendants of one of the 12 tribes. I remember Israel fighting like mad to keep them out and denied they existed. Last I heard DNA tests were performed and proved the tribe was in fact Jewish.
Even with the facts some Israelis tried to block their entrance into Israel. Last I heard someone with money arranged an air lift and brought them home to Israel.
I do wonder how they are doing and if they have been excepted in their Home Land.

You would be Jewish as your mother and grandmother are. If you left the faith I suppose we could call you jewish, as I do myself- if only to anger the nazis..., My grandfather didn't think of himself as a jew even if Stalin did. However, he maried into the faith as well however I was never able to ask him about it. I would never ask my Grandmother even before she started losing it. Some things you just don't bring up over coffee.
If you adopted the faith and went through all the hoops, then your children's children would be thought proper Jewish. Your children, if they kept the faith would be jews as well, but still not part of the the 'tribe' yet. It's even more complicated that I am explaining, and I'd suggest you dig into it if you are intrested.
