The two flagship Scientology outposts in Paris, a bookstore and an information centre, were ordered to pay €600,000 in fines. The head of the church in France was given a two-year suspended sentence for fraud and fined €30,000.
However, the court allowed the church to keep operating in France. In May, when the trial began, prosecutors asked that it be shut down as a criminal enterprise, only to discover that the law that might have allowed its banishment had just been deleted as part of an overhaul of the penal code.
The French case stemmed from similar complaints from people who said that in 1998, Scientology officials harassed them into emptying their bank accounts to pay for expensive courses, equipment, vitamins and what were called purification treatments.
France has labelled the Church of Scientology a cult, a designation that brings it under the purview of a special government monitoring commission that reports each year on “abuses by sects.â€

About damn time.
This reminded me of the time I was approached by a very good looking young lady (damn she had nice knockers :o), who, get this, would have sex with me if I went to this "meeting" first. I'm not kidding. Being a very horny young man at the time (I'm not young anymore, but that's all that's changed), I almost fell for it, till I learned it was a Scientology meeting. I declined her gracious offer.
Yes, they will have sex for Ron Hubbard. Hell of a religion. :mental:

'Freedom of religion' includes the freedom to make stupid choices about religion. For my $.02 it's a total scam, but if people want to believe in that crazy BS, it's their right.

Ah the French and the Catholic Church.
Had the Germans marched in and taken over their churches first, the French would have driven them back to the far side of Poland.
For their faith the French would become rabid dogs and NEVER surrendered to the last man, woman or child over 10 years of age.
Huguenots those Protestant French in their own country were subjected to unbearable torture for leaving the Church.
My Grandfather was excommunicated from the Church for marring my Grandmother a Protestant. To this day I have no idea how his parents accepted her, she must have been one of a kind to get past her in -laws and the Church.
My Pepere seldom went to church but on his death bed he asked for a Priest.---- Fancy that, after all the Church did to him he still believed. This sent shock waves through our family, just showed us how much we did know about him.---He had attended Protestant churches for marriages, funerals, and baptisms and when driving his car passing a Catholic Church would doff his hat in respect.
No so odd that France is looking with a jundiced eye at Scientology.
I met some of these people that have a group in town and decided to read up on their beliefs and rituals. NOTHING in any kind of Library in the country or even at used book stores. Very secretive people, everything hidden deeper then rituals of the Masons.
A few books by those who left Scientology but not a one that was written by an adherent of this so called faith.
My library is great, they will search every library in every town or University in the country to find anything I want, but this was beyond them.
Viva La France. great lovers, Hell of a bunch of fighters---French Foreign Legion still working today as mercenaries, artists and inventors. Not to mention their wonderful sense of humor, GO Frenchie GO. God Loves You.
