McCain Lacks Experience To Be President, Army General Says
Republican contender for president does not have the "right kind" of military experience to lead the nation, a retired Army general said this weekend.
During a conference call with various military leaders, former General Wesley Clark -- who ran for president in 2004 -- said although Sen. John McCain is a former soldier with a solid military record, it is not the type of experience that the U.S. commander-in-chief ought to have.
"That doesn't prepare you to be commander-in-chief in terms of dealing with the national strategic issues that are involved," the National Review quoted Clark as saying Sunday on its website.
"It may give you a feeling for what the troops are going through... but it doesn't give you the experience first-hand of the national strategic issues," Clark added.
Clark, himself a former military fighter, has endorsed Hillary Clinton in the race for president saying she is the only one with the necessary experience to lead the nation on foreign policy matters.
"Look at what Hillary Clinton has done during her time as First Lady. I think she is the most experienced and capable person in the race," he said.
The National Review reported on its website Sunday that following Clark's comments, retired Admiral William Owens -- also the former vice chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff -- said, "I would just say that I agree with Wes on that."
Clark ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 but lost to the eventual nominee, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry.

I tracked down the link to National Review Online (http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NjA3NTQ5ZDQ1ZmUwYWM5MWU0YTA2ZDkzZTdmYzA3YzY=), and also found the reaction from the maccain campaign (http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MjA2OTU5OTBlMDVkZmFiOTBlNmM0YzllYWNkYmNjODY=).
Wes Clark should be ashamed of himself. John McCain's 24 years in the US Senate, serving as Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, and leadership on every major national security issue over the last two decades has prepared him to lead as commander in chief from day one.

Yes and a child with zero military experience and zero public service experience or someone who was a shyster (also with no miltarty experience, but hey she's a chick so she gets a bye, right?) and married some dude who got blow jobs all the way to the presidency are SO MUCH MORE EXPERIENCED.

here are his actual comments from NRO.
In the national security business, the question is, do you have — when you have served in uniform, do you really have the relevant experience for making the decisions at the top that have to be made? Everybody admires John McCain's service as a fighter pilot, his courage as a prisoner of war. There's no issue there. He's a great man and an honorable man. But having served as a fighter pilot — and I know my experience as a company commander in Vietnam — that doesn’t prepare you to be commander-in-chief in terms of dealing with the national strategic issues that are involved. It may give you a feeling for what the troops are going through in the process, but it doesn't give you the experience first hand of the national strategic issues.
If you look at what Hillary Clinton has done during her time as the First Lady of the United States, her travel to 80 countries, her representing the U.S. abroad, plus her years in the Senate, I think she's the most experienced and capable person in the race, not only for representing am abroad, but for dealing with the tough issues of national security.
leaving aside for a moment mccain's untouchable experience as chairman of the senate ASC, lt. kerry certainly thought his military experience qualified him to be commander in chief.
but it is off-the-charts ludicrous that any dem would criticize mccain's experience on defense issues when their own nominee, whoever it turns out to be, is going to be a spectacular retard in the entire area.

Being a POW forty years ago not enough for Clark, but, Kerry being a f cking traitor in the same timeframe was...

You would think an ex Army General would know that McCain was not a soldier he was a navy pilot. :thatsright:

I'm not going to get into it with you about Kerry, but I will say that Clark is very wrong on this issue.

Yes and we all know that Little Clarkie's experience almost starting a shooting war with the Russians definately qualifies him to be CinC.
I'd give anything for General Shelton to break his silence and tell us what kind of person Gen. Clark really is.

It's amazing.
That asstard was an unmitigated disaster in Bosnia-Kosovo; (So-much-so that Hillary's husband fired him.) yet he feels HE has the military experience to pick a new sink let alone a new CinC.
To think this man was allowed to command men in combat.
