Schumer gets vindictive

Don't cross Chuck Schumer -- unless you want to swim with cement shoes. Or so New York's senior senator seemed to be telling health insurers.

After the industry issued a report showing ObamaCare would drive up health-care bills, Schumer moved to ice their longtime anti-trust exemption.

Sen. Shameless said he was reacting to their "stirring the pot," because they'd "blundered so badly" with their report.

Whether the exemption is merited is not at issue; this is policymaking-by-vendetta. And it's scary, especially when you consider his priors: In 2008, he leaked a confidential letter about IndyMac bank, arguably causing a run on deposits and putting the bank out of business.

Equally terrifying is how eagerly Democrats take their cues from Don Chucky.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid instantly echoed Schumer's anti-exemption call. President Obama followed suit, calling the industry "deceptive" and for an end to the exemption.

From "Dinerboy", one of the comments left on the NY Post article:

This is politics as usual, unfortunately. It's also the down side of rent seeking. In this case, the insurers got a nice benefit in the form of an anti-trust exemption by cozying up to the politicians. In doing so, they gave the politicians a lever.

Moral? Don't go to the godfather for favors if you ever want to work freely again

I could not agree more. It is politics as usual. Chucky Schmuckhead is merely doing something that has been done in both houses of Congress for a very, very long time.

And it flies directly--DIRECTLY--in the face of the First Amendment. The thing starts out by saying that "Congress shall make no law..."

Not that these a-holes actually care about that flawed Constitution or anything... :whatever:

Upchuck strikes again.

The guy couldn't even run a hot dog stand if he wasn't a Senator.

Hi,

What I find amazing is this.  For the insurance companies this is a lose-lose deal.  Why the hell are they not lambasting congress and the libs, why go down without a fight?  If the public option gets in the bill they will die a slow painful death anyway.

regards,

in the short term, the insurance companies would make a killing off of all the healthy people being forced to have insurance.
