I kinda like Diet Dr. Pepper. It's different.
Did Coke stop making a diet drink? I must have missed that.

OK, alcohol and caffeine make sense...but diet coke makes a caffeine-free version.

Sorry, bkg. That's gotta stink. :(

I completely emphathize. I had to give up refined sugar and peanuts - which meant I had to give up real sugar in my coffee (and I drink a LOT of coffee) and peanut butter (which I was literally addicted to), not to mention all the other refined sugar and peanut products I was getting incidentally.
It was wicked hard, but worth it in the end. I had physical issues which have been cleared up about 85-90% since quitting pure sugar and peanuts.

Give up sugar next?
God help me!!!!! :o
This sucks. I've had a Diet Coke today - cause it's in the house and I was shaking. But overall, i think I've done pretty good for somone who normally downs 8-12 in a day.

Once you're over the hump and start feeling the benefits, it gets that much easier. If I sneak any PB (and I do, I won't lie), I feel the effects the very next day and they aren't pleasant - in fact worse than before because now I notice them more.
Anyway, good luck!

Are you able to switch to caffeine free Diet Coke...or do you have to eliminate Diet Coke period?
I went from caffeine to caffeine free...so once my body adjusted to eliminating the caffeine ...I still had the Diet Coke. There really isn't a taste difference that I could tell.
Have the headaches started yet? To me, those were worse than the shakes.
If you can have it, chocolate has a small amount of caffeine. It doesn't have any effect on me....chocolate relaxes me so much, I get sleepy.
Just an FYI....tea has more caffeine than coffee...

Doc said I could "drink all the caffeine free Diet Coke you want." But.... I have two cases of regular DC from Sam's in the basement (32/each)....
I've long felt that the issue w/ Diet Coke, even though it's a beautiful gift from God, is the chemicals. I figure I might as well try to ignore the caffeine free variety and get off this garbage once and for all. Or so I tell myself right now...
I have a bit of a headache, a bit of a cold, am exhausted from sitting on my ass all day w/ work and lack of sleep... Overall, just a crappy week.
-
I don't do the sodas, but I must have my coffee in the morning. I shudder to think what I would do if a doctor told me no caffeine or alcohol. I am so sorry for you. :bawl:

8-12??? Good Lord!!
I had to give up caffeine a few years ago. My heart doc said I could keep it up, but would die if I did. Not a bad incentive. Took me a couple of weeks.

Uh yeah. That is pretty much what I would say. Hell, I would even EXERCISE in order to have a beer. :naughty:

I only do exercise that requires the use of one hand at a time so I can hold my beer with the other. I KNOW that is going to be taken wrong ...

No comment. But, I would walk a treadmill and drink a beer. And, if you drink a Bloody Mary, and it has a celery stick in it, then the celery and tomato juice negate the Vodka, right?

Ya know, is life worth living when one has to sacrifice the good things ?? I can see the diet sodas as aspartame has some bad side effects, especially if it gets over 100°F (turns into methanol, not the good kind of alcohol) But seriously, coffee?? Soda, altogether?? (I kind of have a bad feeling about HFCS, though, so Mexican Coke might be better for a person) While I try to limit my intake of sodas to one per day, I drink a lot of coffee (black). The way I look at it is I'll die when I die. Ain't much, other than being just plain reckless, is going to change it. I could be driving down the road and some idiot could front on crash me and I might die. One's number is up when it's up. (Note to Eupher; "It's")

In my case anyway, ,my life is improved by sacrificing the good things. When I eat peanuts I get body aches and stiffen up and it hurts just to walk short distances; and I'm hypoglycemic (non-diabetes related) so refined sugar has uncomfortable physical results also. But I'd go nuts if I had to give up caffeine because it doesn't make me feel bad at all.

Great progress. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. I have had a Buckler before, it is a NA beer, made by either St. Pauli or Heinekin, I can't remember which. It ain't bad. For NA beer.

It's really not all that bad. Traveling this week has helped a lot as it's pulled me out of my normal routine. Next week when I'm at home or if I head into the office is going to be the real challenge. Free pop and RedBull... and no free bottled water (I hate the tap water in MN).
I quit drinking cold for 8 months a couple of years ago. Actually started to like Buckler and a couple of other NA's. This is really a lifestyle change I've needed to make for a few years now, but I'm not sure I'm ready to go so far as too.... :shudder: exercise! :-)

Have you tried a lo-carb diet?
-
Have you tried a lo-carb diet?
One step at a time!
beer was likely a lot of my carbs. My diet has gotten somewhat better just by nature of working at home (and being cheap)...
-
beer is my carb too. I think I am gonna see about wine.
What a drag it is getting old.
-
Ahh...Diet Coke. Just had one myself.
-
What a drag it is getting old.
It's better than the alternative. :(
-
The soda machine here is out of everything else. I had to have TWO Diet Coke's today. The horror...

It's better than the alternative. :(
True that. :cheersmate:
