Since last Wednesday morning, Ron’s Home & Hardware has received roughly 240 orders for five-pound bags of rock salt. While buyers were scattered around the country, each requested the same delivery address in Portland, Maine – one of six state offices for U.S. Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe.
John M. Thieling, co-founder of the Indianapolis-based company, says an employee turned to the Web for an explanation and found a blog entry on RedState.com urging readers to order bags of rock salt from Amazon.com and mail them to the senator’s office. Ron’s Home & Hardware sells rock salt through Amazon.
Erick Erickson, RedState.com’s editor in chief, says he came up with the ploy to express frustration against Snowe for her decision to vote in favor of the Democrats’ health-care and economic-stimulus bills. “What melts snow? Rock salt,†Erickson wrote last week. “It is a visible demonstration of our contempt for her. First she votes for the stimulus. Now this.â€
A spokeswoman for Snowe did not immediately return a request for comment.
Erickson says he used a similar tactic in January, encouraging readers to send rubber balls to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky “to remind him he needed to grow a pair and fight the Democrats.†About 200 were shipped. “We talked to staffers who said they were all generally annoyed but they got the point,†Erickson says.

At least it wasn't canned peaches.

Ok, I'll bite. Who got the canned peaches?

Nancy Pelosi. The tards at DU decided to send canned fruit to Nancy Pelosi as a message to im"peach" President Bush.
To be fair, Erickson's idea is just as dumb.
