Ship allegedly hijacked had Russian missiles bound for Iran
WASHINGTON - Remember that story about a Finnish cargo ship with a Russian crew on board that mysteriously disappeared for weeks in mid-summer? When it turned up, hijackers were blamed. But the story is unraveling.
Israeli intelligence sources say the vessel was actually under the control of a group renegades shipping a quantity of Russian made S-300 missiles and/or something else very sensitive to Iran. Those missiles are some of the most potent in Russia's arsenal.
The Russian government had no knowledge of what was going on until Mossad allegedly tipped off government officials. It was at that point the Russian Navy set out to recover the vessel and in order to avoid the embarrassment associated with the whole scheme, the story about the vessel being hijacked was concocted.
The story about armed men taking over the boat has been knocked down by the lawyer for the eight Estonian men who say they were framed.
The story is further complicated by reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid a secret visit to Russia in early September to voice concern about about the shipment.
The question now is who were the renegades, and how did they get their hands on Russian S-300 missiles without the knowledge of the Russian government?

Just like everything else since the heady days of the cold war. Somebody just sold them trying to make a quick ruble. I rememebr a story about a tank crew that sold their tank for booze back in the day so why not a few IRBM's.
