I was fired for stealing
Well, no, I was fired for an accusation of stealing. I stole nothing.
It was a crappy 8/hr retail job that I had worked for 2 years with little incident. The safe came up $5 short, and they fired me. Some lady had dropped a five dollar bill. The manager put it in the safe monday night. Thus, the safe should have been $5 over. I counted it even the next morning. I don't know if I miscounted, or what, but there it is.
Here's my problem. I'm trying to move on, and just get a new job. But I don't know how to describe this firing in my resume. I wasn't downsized, or anything like that. And all the resume sites say to never put anything negative about managers, and also to never lie
SO WHAT THE **** DO I PUT?
I thought about saying "will discuss," but I don't know if that will work. If I write "accused of stealing, but I didn't do it" BWAMP, right into the trash can.
I also thought about writing to the manager who did it, who is at least a former friend, and basically asking her to not sabotage me to another company. But I don't know if that's a good idea, and I certainly not going to ask her to lie.
I'm ****ing panicking now. I was ok last night (fired yesterday afternoon), but after thinking about what I need to do now, I am lost.
Somehow I think the maybe the dummies attitude about his job caused this! Not a shortage of 5 dollars. They usually will not fire you for that! Me thinks said dummie was probably a POS employee and they needed a reason to 86 his useless ass! :-)http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x9080185

I call BS on the whole story.
In typical DUmmy fashion it is either a complete lie or missing 3/4 of the other details.
-
I think the issue was his lack of counting skills. Learning to count - put it on ur list!
-
You open yourself to serious liability if you fire an employee for stealing without proof. Even shortages aren't good enough. As a restaurant manager my tills constantly came up short and I had no way of demanding the servers make up the difference (though we did change systems after 6 mos.).
Total BS by someone who doesn't know much about his business after 2 yrs.
-
indeed - I once managed a convenience store, and one needs absolute proof of employee theft - even my assistant manager, who was stealing lottery tickets out of the middle of the book to avoid the shortage from coming up on her shift was damn near impossible to nail.
Actually, she quit before she could get her ass handed to her by the authorities.
(in Massachusetts, a scratch-off ticket book has 300 items in it - this chick learned to approximate where the book would be when her shift ended and would steal a few about 25 to 50 tickets past that point. If she was wrong, she would find some way to get the tickets she took back on the shelf in the dispenser)

I remember in HS someone was stealing from other cashier's drawers--sometimes to the tune of $100. Nobody got fired until they found the actual culprit. However, a few folks were on edge.
-
I worked in a grocery store in high school ....way back in another century (thought I would say that before Thor pointed it out )
If we were over 10 cents off on our registers, we got a circle.
3 circles in a month resulted in a star.
3 stars in a row...got you fired.
The owners were 100% Sicilian. :-)
Nowdays....an employer needs documentation out the wazoo to fire someone.
LOTS of missing details in dummy post.

I was fired for stealing being a p.o.s. employee
Well, no, I was fired for an accusation of stealing. I stole nothing. a lot of sheet until finally getting caught.

Probably got fired for something else. Stealing needs proof.

but falsely accused of stealing makes such a good story.

but falsely accused of stealing makes such a good story.
Yeah, it does.
-
I'm sure there is more to the story.
I have fired people for stealing before, telling them if they wanted to contest it, we would get the police involved. It's funny, I would never hear from them again or see any unemployment claims.

Like several zeros to the right of the 5.
-
When you're telling the truth then you don't get fired or you sue the Hell out of the company if they do fire you.
I worked in courtesy booth of a local grocery chain years ago and was accused of stealing $3000 from safe. (even though every frickin move was monitored by a zillion cameras in the booth) I was grilled by security for an hour and was threatened with criminal charges and termination.
I basically told them "Bring it".
3 Days later, the money turned up; it was an accounting mistake.

The real story...
DUmmie: Hey, I brought you a latte!
Manager: I thought you didn't have any money. You borrowed $20 dollars from me for gas.
DUmmie: No problem! I just took that lady's $5 out of the safe. She'll never miss it! Did you see the wad of cash she had?! Even if she did she wouldn't know where she lost it. Why not put it to good use?
Manager: Because it's not up to you. You're a very part time employee and you've only been working here for 2 months. I can't even count on you to get here on time. You haven't earned the right to make those kinds of decisions. The owner was going to keep it in the safe for a couple of weeks in case the lady comes back and then put it in the petty cash box.
DUmmie: Well, I only work very part time because I can't work more than that because of my health. I have back problems, chronic fatigue, anxiety, and intestinal issues. The least the greedy owner could do is buy me a coffee. It's not my fault I don't earn more. What's 5 bucks to him?
Manager (who happens to have MS but works full time): Yes, I know about you're health problems. You complain about them constantly. It's your excuse when you decide you can't come in the few hours we ask you to work. Everyone else complains that they hate working with you. No one wants to be on the schedule when you're here. Obviously you can't be trusted, either so we're going to have to let you go.
DUmmie: Bitch!!! I thought you were my friend! You're just like all the other bitches that work here! All you care about is yourself! And don't think you're getting that $5.00 back either. I figure you owe me that in the gas I wasted getting here. Screw you!

There would be a lot more cussing, the english would be 10x worse and there needs to be more self-centeredness.
So I give it an A-

My mother went through accussations of stealing several hundred from a Mcdonalds safe when she was running the store. She was angry at the owners about it, and was eventually cleared, and she retained her job. Somehow, I'm thinking there is something more going on here.
I'm guessing the store was looking at downsizing, and they figured this would be the easiest way to go. They have a "legitimate" reason to fire him.

I'm sure there is more to the story.
I think that phrasing 'With little incident' says a lot about the situation here. DUmmies are nothing if not nuanced.
-
Walmart has a camera trained over every cash register in the store, as well as several in the rooms where the cash is handled. You don't even look at a $5 bill without someone knowing about it.
Heck, I once found a $20 under the counter when I was cleaning my register one night. I took it straight to the manager. My actions cleared another cashier who was accused of taking it, thought the store couldn't prove it. Turns out the bill had fallen from the cash drawer unnoticed when she closed it....
If this DUmbass had nothing to hide, he'd still have a job. If the store had something on him, he'd be in jail....
Doesn't pass the smell test. I give it a -8 stars.... :loser:

"Nuanced" is a democrat word that means "dishonest".
