Just had a conversation with coworkers, and they disagree with me as I suspect many of you do.
But I'm with Keith on this issue of whether or not Rush should be able to buy an NFL team.
This is America.
People should be able to spend their money any way they like.
Ironically one of my coworkers had a similar incident happen to him. He was denied the right to buy land in Texas in the 60's. The owner didn't (white) refused to sell to him. You can pretty much guess why.
No, one can't. Why couldn't the guy buy the land?
The buzzy one:

1. Rush will be able to buy the Rams if he so pleases and if his offer is accepted. As it should be.

2. We have no say anyway, but the other NFL owners do.

3. I don't care if limbaugh wants to own a football team. I think if he wants to, then go for it.

4. Oh, I think he's free to buy a team if he wants too, agreed.
And equally, I think anyone who doesn't want to play for said team is also in their right.
Personally, my hope is he would buy a team and get so wrapped up in that, that he wouldn't have the time or inclination for his three hours of radio hate every day. But that's just me.
I also envision the NFL draft, what's he to do, when draftee after draftee turns him down?
Now, why would that happen? Is franksolich missing something here?

9. Do you honestly think anyone is going to turn down $$$$ because Rush signs the check?

12. Hey, I can dream
Look, as someone further down notes, what's the difference between RL and other NFL owners. They're all odious.

5. With the same rules & scrutiny other owners have to live up to, sure, let Rush dabble in sports
Players can either go along, or resign, as they choose, should Rush become an owner. The ones with the integrity to put their money where their values are might just get some Joe and Jill Six-pack worker bees thinking about the morality of THEIR bosses.
Yeah, I have the audacity to hope for a movement of American workers becoming vocal on the mores of the corporate class which employs (herding toward servitude) them.

6. Most of the other NFL owners are as odious as Rush Limbaugh - what would the difference be?

We know what Rush has said, and we didn't like it.
Not that the two are similar, but I have no idea what George Soros says when no one's listening. David Geffen might be quite upset about the demographics of his new next door neighbors for all I know. What political party does George Steinbrenner support? Was Jack Kemp a Republican or a Democrat?
And then there is the most important aspect of this- who gives a damn about pro-sports?

10. Rush should be allowed to buy anything he can afford.
Now, whether it's a good idea, or if players and coaches should agree to work for him, that's another question.
Now, why would players and coaches NOT want to work for a famous celebrity?

11. "This is America" Isn't that a little too simplistic?
No one is saying the Government should block the sale. But just like EVERY OTHER franchise in America, the franchisors get to pick and choose who they allow as a representative of their product.
I think the primitives are trying, prematurely, to set something up here--that black coaches and football players for the Rams would be Uncle Toms.
Wait and watch. It'll happen.

How could Catcrap Woman live with herself with those rightwing ideas??

Don't celebrities own parts of other NFL team?? Like the Dolphins for instance?

Yes, the Dolphins do. I think the Williams sisters, Gloria Estefan, and others have a stake in the team.
There are probably other "celebrities" who own small minority stakes in pro franchises which just aren't big public news.

Oh really?
Sharpton to NFL: Block Limbaugh (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1009/28188.html)
OK, maybe not the GOVERNMENT, just the NFL.

Mark Anthony was yakking it up last night with Snoop or someone...

Ted "Moonbat" Turner owns a professional team....why not Rush for a little balance?
I know, I know.......but it's all the same to me.

Rush was talking about how this lie has spread all over the MSM about him saying that slavery had some good points. I think he is on the verge of suing them.

I would give them 48 hours to either retract the reports or source the quote.
If neither happens serve all the news outlets with papers suing them for slander and libel.
As for 500 mil per news organization.
A trial or even an out of court settlement would ruin them once and for all financially.
An apology and/or a retraction would shred what little credibility they have left and do the same thing as a financial penalty to their bottom line.

I listened to him today, he is going to sue unless they find the actual offending comment (which they can't) or they say they were wrong on TV.

Which he will replay on his radio show for YEARS. lol. AND they will need to stop saying it too. Rush needs to google it or Nexus it and find them ALL and keep checking.

I did some searching on several quotes attributed to Rush. They all seem to bounce back and forth between lefty blogs with no credible news source for the originals. The left did the same thing to Ann Coulter a couple of years ago with a quote about the military.
Soldiers are just cowards with their backs against the wall. The lowest IQ men in our society, those incapable of normal careers enlist. Their choice in life; prison or the military. Some will have to die in the support of our cause. - Ann Coulter, Intervention Magazine, 11/06/03

It is leftists who say that the military is for the poor and stupid.
-
This is no different than the left and their silly...oft repeated proclomation to any Conservative that will listen that "there's no proof Saddam was behind 9/11"...like some Conservative or member of the Bush administration had actually said it.
The left created that whole claim out of whole cloth and then ran around claiming WE said it.
The same thing is going on here.

This coming from the self-appointed, "smartest people on the Net." There ain't enough stupid in the world already, DUmmies? You have to wallow in the shit?
For the record, any of you who are lurking here. He was a Republican. Was 1996 that long ago for you?
While you're at it, look at a list of former athletes who have run for political office. Look at the percentage of them who are Republican, or conservative in nature. For every Heath Shuler you can name, I can name 10 more--and they were all better athletes, hands down. Kemp, Jim Ryun, Bunning, Largent, Swann, you see me working here, DUmmies?
-

Something tells me the DUmmy is thinking of Jack Kent Cooke...the former owner of the Redskins...not jack Kemp the former Buffalo QB and Congress Critter.
Idiot. :whatever:

Rush has already "sourced" the quote. It came from a snivelling left wing blogger in '98. It's like he says, if he had actually said this, the media sure as hell would have picked it up within minutes of said quote. We are just now hearing about something he said in '98?
Doesn't even pass the smell test!
