Title: I still remember my first time.
Post by: RobJohnson on October 10, 2009, 11:29:56 AM
Yesterday was my first time for the flu shot. Did you get yours?

The State of Nevada wants me to get the N1H1 vaccine next week, they will even pay for it. I'm in one of the occupations on the list.

Never had the shot or the flu.  "keep doing what you've been doing and you'll keep getting what you've been getting".  Works for me.

Last time I had the flu shot was the last time I got the damn flu. The next year (1997) I was going through an SRP for the military. The flu shot was on the list. I refused. Why? That was a Friday and I was leaving for PLDC on, IIRC, Sunday. I haven't had the flu since. I somehow shammed my way out of any mandatory flu shots while I was still in. Sue me. I stayed healthy.

I'm wondering if the flu shot wasn't at least partially responsible for what I've got now.

My exposure is higher this year, so I thought it would be a good idea. A local pharrmacy is doing shots on a walk in basis...making it alot easier for me to get one this year. The whole process, including filling out the paperwork, took about 10 minutes, thank you Walgreens.

I got my first one 10 years ago.  Some medical reasons necessitated that I should probably get one that year.  I kept getting them until I got walking pneumonia three straight years after getting one. :banghead:  I've been avoiding getting the flu shot ever since.

I can't remember if I've ever had a flu shot.  The last time I had the flu was in 1996... it was horrible.

My first and last flu shot came as a "freebie" when I was working for BOEING.  I then spent the next two weeks down sick with the flu.

I received a flu shot for the first time in my life at the end of September.  My doctor told me it would be the prudent thing to do as I live through the aftermath of my respiratory failure and massive heart attack(s).  I decided to listen to my doctor THIS TIME.  haha.

I assume I will be receiving the pig flu shot during my doctors visit at the end of this month.  I do not like the idea, but I don't know what else to do at this time.   The flu could kill me.  Really, so could the shot.

It would be ashamed to go toes up now.

Make a fight of it, your Lordship.  If Death gets you, I want to see 'im limping when he comes to lay me down for my dirt nap.

I'm glad you got the shot & I'm sure your family is also.

I don't know that I've ever had a flu shot unless I got one back in the 70's.

Knock on wood, I haven't had it in several years.

Last time, the other half and I both got it on a trip to Key West. I got it when we were down there, and went to a walk-in clinic and was given Z-pack. He got it the night before we were to leave and did nothing but sleep on the plane on the way home and stay in bed the next day. He got over it. Mine turned into severe bronchitis and bordered on pnuemonia that hung around for about 6 weeks (sucks to be alllergic to codeine).

Not going to fly anywhere this fall.... :uhsure:

I've had that happen to me twice, the last time was 2005. Man, was I sick. Was a manager for a car dealership at the time, I guess being out in the freezing rain did not help either, after I was already sick.  :banghead:  It all started when I was out on a test drive with a couple that wanted to buy a car, she coughed the entire dirve...I knew I was doomed!

I had bronchial pneumonia when I was 5....ever since, if I get a bad cold, or just the right germ...I get bronchitis.

Because I'm allergic to codeine...the only thing I can use is Robitussin....so it usually gets much worse before better. The doctor now starts me with a shot of rocephin (sp) the stuff that's mixed with lidocaine and stuck into my hip....then I take some antibiotic the size of a horse pill, and get an Advair inhaler.

Like I said....knock on wood....I don't get it very often....it's been at least 4 years...

Let's hope the germ stays away!
