Oh my.
It was a while ago that the primitive who lit this bonfire was asking other primitives about the best sort of flashlight.

Many thanks to all who shared info re: good flashlights. What we got was 2 Maglights. 3 D cell. On sale, no less.
So far.
But....get this...Mr. D. ( who did not do any homework, or ask for DU help) was adamant that he wanted just a regular bulb, and poopoohed my mention of LED.
So I got both, the LED for me.
Then we went out into the yard when it was very dark.
It is not in his nature to admit he was wrong.
but the look on his face said it all.
Neener neener neener.
Thanks all of you. I am happy with MY LED.

1. one thing to look out for with an L.E.D. bulb...
It will not warn you when the battery is almost dead like a regular bulb will by getting dim.
Bright as ever right till the end, and then gone in a flash.
not a hugh problem if you have spare batteries.

2. Thanks for that info. We keep lots of batts around.
This is for the stormy- power- went -out or the who-the -hell- is -in -the -yard and let me shine the light at eye level type of situation. They will never see the dog coming at 'em.
Now I am researchng the head lamps, for the reading things when the power is out for a long time situation.
Hopefully not needed.

3. We got ours at Costco and we love them.
They are great for finding copperheads in the yard at night.
Warning though.
If you are seated in a very dark room at the Wayside Inn in MA, and you pull out your head lamp to read the menu, your table of friends will think you are very eccentric.

6. Do copperheads glow in the dark or anything like that?
shudder.
I know we have poisonous snakes around here, but usually I don't think about it when I take the dog out for his nighly trot.
any tricks appreciated.
We do have yard cats and owls and racoons all over.

8. No they don't glow, but they are easy to see in that light.
Their eyes don't reflect light at all because of a special lens they have.

I prefer the Krypton bulbs for better light. LED's are okay for general illumination during a power failure, or finding the good flashlight in the dark.
-
I'm curious......why would copperheads be easier to see at night with a flashlight, than in broad daylight??

Well, I guess you can add another obscure topic to the list that the DUmmies have now discussed, Frank.

I think the primitive got the snake confused with a scorpion

All those batteries sound bad for the environment. Those criminals.
They should have got a shake-powered flashlight.

Quite a few of them would have the hand motion down . . .

Yes they would. Especially the DUmpettes.

its an instinct for them

I was gonna say, you accusing the male DUmmies of giving reach-arounds or something?
-
This is why we call them DUmmies. Anyone that stupid to go prancing about looking for poisonous snakes at night deserves to get bit.
-
I think "copperhead" is likely some kind of DUmp slang for a drug dealer.
DUmmies look for dealers, day or night.
-
Damn these people are morons.
-
Why go out looking for them at all?
I've been to the land of the copperhead! If you ever smell cucumber, start looking, and get the hell out of there FAST!
-

It could get dangerous for them if there was a poster of Obama in their view. Megawatt overload, anyone?
