An Ellenwood man who said he suffered permanent scarring to his penis following a series of treatments for erectile dysfunction was awarded more than $9 million by a DeKalb County jury.
John Henry Howard, 53, was awarded $750,000 in compensatory damages and $8.5 million in punitive damages in his suit against Boston Men’s Health Center Inc. ...

That's a ridiculously STIFF fine for punitive damages. He now has enough money for a transplant. :whatever:
-
Or buy all the "fun" he wants

He didn't follow instructions....I had 2 cousins that used that stuff for as long as it would work for them....they had diabetes.
-
9 million! That's just nuts.

This is a perfect example of why tort reform is needed!!
The guy had an erection for 2 DAYS before he called the doctor to find out what was wrong!!!
While he might have had fun with a 2 day hard-on.....it was stupid to not call the doctor. With all the commercials on tv for erectile dysfunction....every single one of them says to call a physician if the erection lasts more than 4 HOURS!!!
Guy's getting $9 million because he was stupid and a jury was sympathetic....

Agreed - very bad judgement and should be appealed. Hell, the damned commercials warn to see a Dr!

Meanwhile, that's $9 million which could/should have been spent on research and treatments for cancer, heart disease, diabetes, MD, MS, etc.

It comes from insurance company that the med clinic pays malpractice and liability insurance to.
In turn, the insurance company will increase the rates that each entity pays to them.
Each entity....med clinics, physicians, etc....will then pass on the increase to their consumers.
The consumer (et al in the health coverage group) will have their premiums increase....
And so it goes on in a continual ripple out effect with a vicious whirlpool in the center.
That whirlpool will be the personal injury lawyer....
Health care reform... :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
Not until tort reform happens. :shame: :angryvillagers:
