America's Smartest Cities - From First to Worst - The Daily Beast
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-10-...
1. Raleigh-Durham
2. San Francisco - Oakland - San Jose
3. Boston
4. Minneapolis - St. Paul
5. Denver
and more....
The link for the rankings is near the end of the story. (Paragraph 7) Methodology is probably a bit suspect, but a good topic for conversation!
Comments on this page too. They do bring up some good points in the comments section, although who knows how much that would change the ultimate rankings...
Oh, I dunno, but whatever.

3. Raleigh-Durham?
Sorry...but
You can't even get a BUS from the airport (which is complete with a church so travelers can pray before getting on the plane). With its sprawl and lack of any discernible land use planning- it's one of the least sustainable cities around. Good luck living there during the decade of oil depletion.
(Chock full of fundies, too- but that's another matter).
Raleigh, North Carolina, and Omaha, Nebraska are usually neck-and-neck for the best cities to live in America, according to reputable professional scientific rankings.

5. People make the city- but double for a lot of the people...
Every single time I've been there, I hear things that would make your jaw drop to the ground.
Let's just say- not the sharpest tools in the shed nor very well read, unless the bible "Christian" books are your cup of tea. The paper sucks as well. Makes the Oregonian look erudite (which is quite the task).

9. No surprises about what were the dumbest cities.
I think all of the bottom twenty were in the Southwest or South. That is, the Red states.

11. Except for Sacramento, Detroit, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Harrisburg and Frenso.

19. You could sum them all up by saying Texas.

31. So.... the top 11 are all in "blue" states.... 9 of worst 14 are in "red" states....
Why doesn't that surprise me?
Oh dear.

Yet they call everyone who disagrees with them "haters".
They can`t look at or discuss anything without hate boiling over.

Can't disagree with Buffalo being one of the stupidest.

The South is much more racially diverse. Their true racism comes out once again.

My Mom went to Ole Miss as well, and was a Military Wife overseas during the Civil Rights movement. She claims the same thing.

That's certainly a nice way of saying that the south has more blacks and illegals to lower their score.
-
The dumbest cities would be badly run cities like Detroit, Chicago and Philly

WTF? Two of the best schools in the state of Georgia are Davison Fine Arts and A.R. Johnson right here in Augusta. They're full of black kids.
However, and with that said, liberals getting into the educational system and completely f'ing up the integration process by lowering standards had a TON to do with the education of inner city children today.
Johnny, I can tell you, it's not black kids in the 'burbs. I can assure you, my next door neighbor's daughter will attending any college of her choosing, and while they have the money, it'll be on an academic scholarship.
I totally discount the liberals' mindset that blacks are inferior. It's systematic of their surroundings....the surroundings created by the white liberals. Trust me, the "Uncle Toms'" and "Sellout's" and "House Negros'" kids will never fail.

All you have to do is look for the States with the highest welfare rolls to find "stupid is as stupid does". They have no incentive to educate themselves. Even in a Red state, the largest cities are generally bue tinted in nature, or at least have large pockets of blue voters.

Here is what the article said about Austin:
"Austin is both Texas’ capital and academic hub—a formula, as we’ve seen, for intellectual success. By far the smartest city in Texas, by our measure, it only fell short in one ironic area: political engagement."
Austin is a liberal island - run by liberals, for liberals. That's why we don't live in the city limits.
Here is one of the mayoral candidates from a few years back:
