Title: Tuesday, the New Monday
Post by: NHSparky on October 06, 2009, 09:21:33 AM
Had an enjoyable (if short) day off, but now back to the grind for 72 more hours (plus commutes) in the great nuclear world.  Fall has officially kicked in.  Heater came on last night.  Rain expected tonight and tomorrow, here's hoping I'm not working in the switchyard tomorrow.

What's new with the world?

Same as yesterday.  Took in some new rescues yesterday, compliments of the county.  I'm not liking some people too much today.

Hope you don't get cold AND wet.

So...the other half's youngest and his wife are having a baby today. A little boy. Which is a wonderful thing. First and probably only boy to carry on the family name, they already have a girl and probably won't have more kids.

The other half was to travel 4 hours to be there for the baby's birth. I, of course, was not included ....so as not to piss off the ex-wife, cause the son is afraid of his mother. Even though I did not meet him for 18 months after his divorce, nor date for another 6 months....and she knows it....she refers to me as the slut that broke up their marriage. We've been together for almost 16 YEARS!!! :censored:

I found out something on Facebook yesterday that the darling  :sarcasm: daughter in law has done. I told the other half because I felt he should know because of the potentially serious ramifications for him. He got mad...furious is a better word, and as a result....didn't go travelling today for the baby's birth. In my defense...I did not tell him to make him mad...I told him so that he would be careful about the topics he discussed with his son from now on, as son tells wife (and his mother) everything. And the wife's picture is in the dictionary next to the phrase "shit disturber".... ::)

He talked to the son last night.....and when he hung up....he said the kid (he's in his 30's) has no clue what his wife has done. I agreed...but threw in....."it wouldn't matter if he did because he would accept whatever she did because she leads him around by the nose and has no b****, just like his mother does".

Ok...so I shouldn't have said that... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:....the fact that it's true is not the point..... :thatsright:

Last night was a tad uncomfortable.....especially when he called me by the ex-wife's name... :bird:

I'm hiding up in my office.....he came up about half an hour ago and apologized. Instead of saying "I'm sorry, too".....which would have been ooohhhhhh so very logical....I said..."don't ever call me by the ex wife's name again"......I said it nicely and I added in that "you wouldn't like it if I called you *****, either!".

He left my office making several smart remarks ......

So.....guess how my day's going? :bawl:

It was Flame that was making the cube steak.

I ended up making my version of Shepherd's Pie with mini Honey Corn Muffins. Super comfort food - I figured he needed it last night. Made a 9x13 dish of it...we'll be eating it for the rest of the week!!

That's right.  You were the gorilla balls!   ::)

Shepherds Pie sounds good too.

Only if it's REAL Shepherd's Pie, made with lamb and Guiness, otherwise, it's just house pie.

My boyfriend, being a purist, would agree with you ten-fold.  The shepherds pie of my youth did not have lamb, nor Guiness.  I understand the difference, but I still think of it fondly as shepherds pie.

No...it's "house pie" ... :-)

Browned chuck, drained. Chopped Vidalia onions, garlic and sliced mushrooms sauteed in butter, add the meat. Season with pepper and Emeril's, add a bunch of granulated beef bouillion and some water, then add a flour/water mix to thicken the liquid to a gravy. Add a drained can of corn, and some sour cream. Taste it to make sure seasonings are right. Put in grease baking dish. To a container of mashed potatoes (I use Countrytime ? it's a taupe colored tub) I add melted butter, parsley, sea salt, pepper, sour cream and shredded cheese. Spread over top of the meat mixture, then bake for 30 minutes at 350. It's even better as a left over. :-)

A gazillion calories...but that's what comfort food is all about.

My Mom's was plain ground beef browned, topped with instant mashed potatoes, and 4 squares of American Cheese side by side on top.

And, that was all.

Hmm..I have watched my aunt in her Doncaster kitchen whip up Shephard's Pie, as does my mother, and neither use lamb nor Guiness. The recipe has likely been bastardized over the years, however it is common to use ANY leftover meat one has for a shepherd's pie. On that note, Brit's love putting meat into pies. Ummm... :rotf:

debk, that really sucks. He could have not seen someone for 5 years and she'd still be talking about how you 'ripped him away from her' :whatever: My guess is she planned to hold his balls in her back pocket for the rest of her life, even if she wasn't with him, and your presence thwarted those plans. Shame to hear she still hasn't gotten over it.

Hang in there, hon. The day will get better for you!

As for me, I worked out this morning, but I'm not feeling great today for some reason. blah! Going to make an easy and quick dinner tonight. Dont' know what yet, but it's bowling night for my son so it has to be quick. I'm also picking up the estranged other half from work since his car is on the fritz. Plan to work out again too if I can get out of this funk.

My day today has been alright so far.  My youngest tried to get me to let her stay home today because her head hurt.  Instead of saying no I said that I'd leave it up to her and if she decides she really needs to stay home then she has to make up all of the work she would miss today plus stay in bed all day.  Also the more she did this the less days she would have if she got something really serious like the flu.  She crawled in my bed while I was drying my hair then the next thing I knew she is dressed and eating breakfast.  So I guess she thought about it and decided she wasn't so sick after all.

New kid, new school, and they're mostly Asians who don't exactly exude warmth and an outgoing attitude.  Can't be easy for her.

Its :banghead: raining :banghead: again. :banghead:

It's coming this way ...and very gloomy out.

Just talked to a friend and she said she's depressed. Was in a restaurant with having lunch with her husband and a song came on the Muzak and she started crying..for no reason. I think the weather we've been having is doing a number on everyone's mental health. With all the rain we've had since spring....I'm understanding why Seattle's suicide rate is so high.   :(

Thanks jty....we've talked and we're ok....at least with each other.  We both have exes....that while they might not be bad people...they both seem to thrive on making us miserable in any way they can. It's almost like they didn't want us...but they don't want us to have someone else and be happy. And we have been happier with each other than either one of us were with the former spouses. His is remarried and mine's on his second wife since me....but it doesn't seem to stop them from trying, and succeeding, to manipulating adult children. Which I guess, doesn't say much for our kids.... :(

Worked today...goog grief those kids just would NOT shut up!

Oldest has the flu.  Middle kid is starting to run a fever, but doesn't say he feels bad.  Who knows.   Supposed to work tomorrow.

Trying like hell to keep the rest of us healthy.

Stupid parent meeting for stupid dance tonight.

Her school isn't as Asian overloaded as Sunny Hills is.  My older daughter transferred to Fullerton from Sunny Hills for that very reason.  Not that she doesn't like Asians, her best friend back in Texas is Japanese, it's just that she felt so isolated because they all stay with their own and speak Korean.  The first day she was at Fullerton she made some friends and seems to really like the Art program they have there.  I like that next year and her senior year she can take classes at Fullerton College if she wants.

Hmmmm...wonder if she'll run into my cousin at Fullerton HS.  She teaches English there.

ETA: I say what I said not out of malice but as an observation.  Most of my neighbors in FV were Vietnamese, and with the exception of one of my next-door neighbors, I didn't know any of them, very few came out for the block parties, and pretty much kept to themselves.  Hey, not for me to figure out why, I guess.
