These are the same people who laugh and think it's cute when he talks about 14-year old daughters (Palin) getting "knocked up" by Derek Jeter.

If he were my husband*shudder*, he'd be homeless and have a dent in his head.   :hammer:

Why did he have to do it on his show?  Why not in person?  The fact that he'd do this on air shows that he really cares more about the ratings it would pull then the actual person he was giving it to.

I hope she leaves his ass.

Some men just do not have a clue how to give a sincere apology and some women will stay even when they have been cheated on time and time again. He must have a gold di*k either that or his bank account is what is keeping her with him.

Reading up on it, he apparently is apologizing to his wife of less then 1 year.   :whatever:

Yeah, but if memory serves, I think they have been together alot longer, as their child is older.  Personally I don't care about him one way or the other, but I am pretty sure he apologized to his wife in person as well.  I believe he figured the only way to exterminate this extortionist was to come right out front, in public and do so, therefore, nullifying anyone's ability to cash out on his bad behavior.

So why do it in public for everyone to hear so that his critics wont nail him on the wall?

Ratings.

Ratings.

Exactly.  And now he gets to be the guy that can stand up and say he confronted his demons up front, and did not try to hide or disclose anything.  And everyone will admire him for being so forthright about something so very personal.  yada yada yada.

Well played, actually.  And interesting timing, seeing as Jay Leno just started his new show, what about a week or two ago??

It was discussed on The View this morning.

He apparently has been with his wife for years and years...one of the women said 20 years...but I don't think that's right, because his wife is way younger than him. Doesn't really matter....bottom line is - he slept with other women during his relationship with his wife. Don't know or care if she knew.

He testified before a grand jury the other day when he first talked about it on the show. Came out with it on the show to "tell the truth" ( ::) ) rather than letting the media do it for him.

------------------

He's making his own jokes about it.....so the ratings are really high from what I've read. I rarely watch his show.

What a way to "tank" Conan.....

I haven't cared for Letterman since the mid 80s. I could care less if his show continues or fades away into distant memory. He was "funny" at one time, but no longer. His humor is stale and his jokes are pathetic. It's like listening to any other comedian over and over. Eventually, the jokes get old.

I always thought he was so derogatory to women...but stopped being so ugly to women guests several years ago.

'Bout the time he started using Bush as a "chew toy" and I thought it was disgusting....

Because he's making fun of it.

Quote
His dilemma was Topic A on the show as he mixed wisecracks with contrition in a virtuoso balancing act. Noting the cool fall weather, he reported, "It's chilly outside my house; chilly INSIDE my house."

Whoever wrote that should be punched in the face.  I don't care if it's Fox News.  "A virtuoso balancing act?"  More like a virtual blow job from the person who wrote this.

Quote
Then he cautioned the audience, "This is only Phase 1 of the scandal. Phase 2: Next week I go on 'Oprah' and sob."

A bit later, guest Steve Martin gave Letterman his kidding consolation: "It proves that you're a human being. And we weren't really that sure before."

Martin Short, making an unannounced appearance, playfully plopped himself in Martin's lap.

"You spend one more minute on his lap, you're gonna get blackmailed," Letterman quipped.

...

Letterman arrived on stage Monday to applause and cheers from his studio audience. After drinking it in, he grinned sheepishly and inquired, with a mock stammer, "Did your, did your weekend just fly by?"

After pausing for the audience's sympathetic laughter, he went on: "I mean, I'll be honest with you folks — right now, I would give anything to be hiking on the Appalachian Trail."

"I got into the car this morning," he added, "and the navigation lady wasn't speaking to me. Ouch."

Ho ho ho.  Ha ha ha.  Your wife's pain is SOOOOOOOOOOO funny.

Jackass.

Compare and contrast:

A fictional apology is more moving, sincere and believable than Letterman's jackassery.

Letterman, be a man and resign.

A bitter cantakerous fool is going to end up humiliated and alone.

I just feel for his kid and wife though.
