KABUL – Militant fighters streaming from an Afghan village and a mosque attacked a pair of remote outposts near the Pakistani border, killing eight U.S. soldiers and as many as seven Afghan forces in one of the fiercest battles of the eight-year war.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the deadliest attack for coalition forces since a similar raid in July 2008 killed nine American soldiers in the same mountainous region known as an al-Qaida haven. The U.S. has already said it plans to pull its soldiers from the isolated area to focus on Afghan population centers.
Fighting began around dawn Saturday and lasted several hours, punctuated by American airstrikes. Jamaludin Badar, governor of Nuristan province, said the two outposts were on a hill — one near the top and one at the foot of the slope — flanked by the village on one side and the mosque on the other.
Nearly 300 militant fighters flooded the lower, Afghan outpost then swept around it to reach the American station on higher ground from both directions, said Mohammad Qasim Jangulbagh, the provincial police chief. The U.S. military statement said the Americans and Afghans repelled the attack by tribal fighters and "inflicted heavy enemy casualties."

**** these ****ing liberal pieces of shit.
They have to ram the takeover of healthcare down everybody's throats so fast there's no time to read the 1200 pages but AfPak is being ignored to death because they don't want to rush into anything they campaigned on for more than a year.
Meanwhile young kids are losing their lives.
If I didn't know better I would swear it is a deliberate plan to kill off people the dems know are predisposed to vote conservative.

The state of Virginia is trying to eliminate the military vote in a more peaceful way.

And the commander in chief needs to take a few weeks off to mull over what to do about the US role in Afghanistan

F*ck you Obama. Send reinforcements so we don't have any more dramatic casualties.
We should be on the OFFENSIVE. Going after them before they retreat to the mountains.
And if they do retreat, we should hunt them down like dogs so they don't have a chance
to mount another spring offensive.

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Oct. 8, 2009—
The pilot of an Apache gunship who flew to the rescue of U.S. soldiers nearly overrun at a remote outpost in Afghanistan last weekend told ABC News today that he had "never seen that large of a force" attacking coalition troops in Afghanistan.
By the time Chief Warrant Officer 3 Ross Lewallen and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Chad Bardwell arrived over the embattled outpost, dubbed Camp Keating, parts were in flames and dozens of insurgents could be seen on the camp's perimeter.
When the battle was over and the fire extinguished, many who survived had nothing left "except the clothes off their backs and the weapons in their hands," one soldier told ABC News.
The pilots and two ground controllers who were at Keating spoke to ABC News, providing fresh details of the weekend battle, the bloodiest engagement in Afghanistan in the past year.
The firefight, which killed eight U.S. troops and left 24 soldiers wounded, came as President Obama is formulating a revised strategy for the now eight-year-long war in Afghanistan.
"When we first showed up and put our sensors on Keating, it was just kind of shock," said Bardwell, 35, of Liman, Wyo., who piloted one of a swarm of Apaches that rushed the base's defense. "All the amount of flames and the smoke and to see that amount of personnel running outside of their wire. It was really kind of shock."
Lewallen added, "I've been on three deployments and I've never seen that large of a force attacking one static position."
When he first arrived on the scene Saturday, Lewallen said he could see about 30 fighters just along the camp's perimeter.
The number of attackers has been estimated from 100 to 200. Lewallen said he thought as many as 350 were involved in the assault.

This is the same Afghan War that the President (piss be upon him) and the 'Rat Congress (piss be upon them all) are currently diddling each other over what number of troops can we send over which will be insufficient to achieve victory, but enough to keep the dumb****s in America from arriving at the proper conclusion that they're all traitorous bastards, right?

Hey, remember when Afghanistan was fairly quiet? Oh, nevermind, that was when Bush was in office. :banghead:
POST TURTLE IN CHIEF! ....that is Obama.

But, I thought the democrat party said that if we capitulated and gave the muslims the White
House, they'd leave us alone.

Next thing you know, they'll be giving Obammy a Nobel Peace Prize for Grade-A cluster****ery.

Al Q and the Taliban can smell his weakness from there.
This is going to be a massive problem in coming years.

The Afghan elections were kind of a turning point, people in the US didn't notice but our adversaries in the field perked up their ears when Democrats in Congress and the Administration signalled they did not stand firmly behind Karzai and seemed to be looking at the disputed results as an excuse to bail.
The far more crooked elections in Chicago (Among other major US cities) and Iran don't seem to trouble them at all, strangely.

I suspect this battle will end up a very exciting Mel Gibson movie.

But, but, this won't allow him the time to study what he wants to do in Afghanistan.... (/sarc off)
Obama couldn't find his ass if he stuck both hands in his back pockets....
