7. Jim Warren reported earlier that the "pitch" was really flat, and Obama really picked up the game.
Said Rio's pitch was much more exuberant. Mayor Daley and Jack Ryan were flat...Michelle just so-so (talked about sitting on her father's lap watching Olga and Nadia and Carl Lewis - who ran when she would have been at Princeton, according to Warren, who write for the Trib).
Ooops, looks like a primitive caught Shelley 0 in a little white lie, there.

11. The pitch was just terrible
I stayed up to watch it live. It was just awful. The President and First Lady did very well, but they couldn't make up for the lackluster presentation where the other speakers - particularly Daley and Ryan - simply sat there repeating the same two or three phrases over and over. The video presentation was inexplicable. Chicago is a beautiful city, but they kept flashing these odd, half-second angles of the cityscape over and over and over, as if that was explanation enough. No feel for or explanation of the venues. The videos consisted of "Look! We have young people!"
It was cringe-worthy.
The media will have a field day with the President and First Lady, but the presentation was bad in spite of them. They couldn't salvage that mess.

The Chicago teevee stations are saying it appears a vote against the USOC...still a lot of bad blood involved. The city gave it their best shot.
Now to hear the expected wingnut blaming President Obama...

USOC Scraps Plans For Olympic TV Network After Pressure
BERLIN — The U.S. Olympic Committee had everything to lose and nothing to air.
That made the decision to postpone plans for its own television network, in deference to the International Olympic Committee's wishes, an easy one.
"There is no question that we underestimated the intensity of the reaction that we got from multiple constituents," USOC chairman Larry Probst said Sunday, after meeting with IOC president Jacques Rogge and deciding to postpone the effort.
The negative reaction came mainly from the IOC and TV partner NBC. All of it seemed to be hurting the effort to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago.

Obama = FAIL.
Seriously, other than cramming down his porkulous, what has the Won done?
More NATO troops for Afghanistan? Nope, no new troops but it was hailed by the state press as a great win.
The economy? Nope, things are worse than ever.
HellCare? Nope, things are worse than ever.
It's just too damn bad that we do not have a affirmative action reality for the Won.

There is absolutely no justification for Chicago to be eliminated in the first round. Madrid got more votes than Chicago and Tokyo when the 2012 Summer Olympic games are going to be in London?!? :puke:

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!11111 Oh, NOes!!! Bam Bam's ego just took a major kick in the nutz! You can bet he thought all he would have to do is show up and "It's in the bag!". And Michelle? And Oprah? Oh man! This is gonna be good! Can you imagine trying to soothe the battered egos of those three????
Hahahahahahahahaha!!!
Barack Hussein Obama, mmmmmmm, mmmmmmm, mmmmmmmm!

Ooops, looks like a primitive caught Shelley 0 in a little white lie, there.
Michelle Obama was born in 1964 she would have been 13 in 1976 when Nadia Comaneci was at Montreal, a tad old to be sitting on daddy's lap.
-
Rush played clips and read from his "presentation". It was all about him. Of course. No wonder they were appalled.
-

Careful. That could be construed as a racist statement! I wouldn't want you to get such a black mark against your good name and become red-faced. :-)

Good for Rio and too bad for those who taxes down there

Senator Rowland Burris of Illinois, the Senator who was appointed to fill President Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat, blames George Bush for Chicago not getting the Olympics in 2016. Burris stated in an interview, shortly after the announcement, that the image of the U. S. has been so tarnished in the last 8 years that, even Barack Obama making an unprecedented pitch for the games could not overcome the hatred the world has for us as a result of George Bush.

I hope they say that over and over...the country has awoke from it`s glassy eyed mist of last year and will see the left as the loons they are.

FGL, I heard Rush's coverage since I spent my lunch hour in the car. It was awesome! Michelle's speech was embarrassing, and WHAT THE HELL KIND OF SACRIFICE IS THAT?? I am very happy about this outcome, because I was cringing thinking about huge piles of cash landing in Chicago. They simply can't help themselves, there would have been unprecedented corruption. Just thinking about it made me nauseated.
Valerie Jarret now has some shovel-ready jobs that she's going to have to pay for. Slumlord POS.

The DUmmies must love this Yahoo headline I just pulled up:

Obama fails at bid to bring Olympics to Chicago
COPENHAGEN – Chicago's early exit from finalist balloting for the 2016 Olympics was a personal setback for President Barack Obama and a painful defeat for America's most prominent Midwestern city.

Freeps, they're not exactly mourning, they're assigning blame. I guess they're in that "stage" of grief. :evillaugh:
They're blaming:
- tea party racists
- Bush
- Rove
- Repugs & Freepers
- Blago (surprisingly enough)

Lots of people thought they were gonna cash in big during 96. Exactly the opposite happened.
I think Atlanta made 10 cents or something... :-)

The Olympic Park bombing fiasco didn't help matters either. Probably soured the IOC on Chicago a little bit as well.

Oh yeah. I remember all the restaurants in Buckhead were all full of themselves, setting
ridiculous reservation rules and penalties if you didn't show. What happened? No one went there.
People who were in Atlanta stayed in the city and didn't venture far from their hotels.

A buddy of mine managed a restaurant in Buckhead during the Olympics and said they took a bath for pretty much the whole month. Went to visit in summer of '97, and the whole area was completely packed.

LOL!!! I think the best part was all the Olympic vendors selling their crap. They got hosed big time.
They were still selling that crap months later there was so much unsold.

Isn't that name sort of racist now? Can't be referring to Bush, he's gone.
-
The presentation, geography, and the attributes of the city have nothing to do with how the
location of the Olympics is determined.
As we learned with Salt Lake, the only real consideration is hard cash funnelled into the
pockets of individual IOC members.
It's nearly inconceivable, but the IOC is even more corrupt than the United Nations.
Had the muslim really wanted the show to be in Chicago, it could easily have been purchased.
