Check in here if you're a proud, small-'s' socialist.
Just wondering how many people here are willing to embrace the name.
It's a big bonfire, so only the PoP:

3. Exactly my point
We're all a bit of a socialist. Some more than others.

16. The library IS socialism, as are the police, fire department and roads
A small-'s' socialist is someone who understands the benefits of such collective action and thinks we need more of it in the country.

35. Collective action through government. That's most people's definition of socialism.
I guess technically this would be "the people owning the means of production". This is true for libraries, police and fire departments and roads. It's true for the military. I'm surprised you think this is up for debate.

65. You need to get out more
Progressives have been pointing out that the US government is socialist since at least FDR. At present, it has elements of socialism, capitalism and fascism. None of these words are absolute or universal.

Or, is that wrong?
How much did we spend on that Wall Street bailout again?

17. I said "socialist", not "communist"
Though, if pressed, I'd probably cop to both.
Yeah, sure, okay, another rich Communist.

..... whether that makes me a socialist, or democratic socialist, or Northern European-esque social democrat, I'm not quite sure yet.
I'm a far-left work in progress.

54. I'm a liberal with a panoply of positions on a panoply of issues
Some of my positions are socialist.
Some might be termed right wing.
On some, I could be seen as a communist.
Mostly, though, I'm a liberal.
Mostly, though, the sparkling husband primitive is an ass.

First off those aren't "production". Second thing is, we could do all those without any government at all.

I think they check in over at Tombstone Acres.

Where's A of W? He's a rabid socialist.
What are they thinking that police, fire depts, and libraries are "means of production?" They don't produce anything. Libraries provide a nice service, police are there to enforce the law, and fire depts are often volunteer organizations. Whenever they say means of production, I envision a mob of angry commies taking over a paper mill and attempting to run it. Falling into the pulpers and getting caught in machinery moving at 5,000 feet per minute. Lopping off a hand in the cutter room. Sorry, I'm getting carried away with my fantasies....
-
Why the hell is it they always use fire and police as examples of socialism? Yes, communities pay for fire and police (in many rural areas the actual fire fighters are volunteers and the community pays for the building and equipment) but said community gets a necessary service for it's money. It pays for a SERVICE (sort of like capitalism). Yes, we pay for a military but if anyone earns their paycheck it's them. IMO they should be making for than teachers. However, it's much more like an insurance policy...you hope you won't need it but pay the premiums just in case.
The TRUE examples of "socialism": welfare, public schools, medicare, social security are failing miserably. We get little to nothing from these programs. Heck, public schools have all but abandoned American history in favor of multiculturalism. Of course, our history is so magnificent and unique that people can't help but feel pride for our country. The left would rather have a house drop on them then admit our exceptionalism.

That is a pretty good illustration of why socialist economies are so productive.
It may also resemble operation of an automobile plant after the takeover by UAW/Government Motors.
You may find bloodstains on the upholstery of your new Goremobile.

8. I'm about to make it official. If we don't get a Public Option.
I'd say go ahead and call yourself a socialist. If you don't get your public option you are going to make it official and if you do get it that definitely makes you a socialist.
-
WTH is an 'unprofitable necessity'? That should be the one time a company can turn a profit when someone can't do without it. What he really meant to say is necessities in life where he doesn't think a company should make a profit. Lying pos.

The library IS socialism, as are the police, fire department and roads.
Stupidity at its worst, and this primitive has a track record of doing it often.
No one's ever successfully argued that the gov't shouldn't provide certain functions on behalf of its people. In fact, that's the whole reason to have a gov't. If it weren't for those certain functions being necessary, then you wouldn't need a gov't at all.
But trying to say that because gov't oversees certain functions that means it's socialism?? Nope, that doesn't even qualify as a coherent thought.

A small-'s' socialist is someone who understands the benefits of such collective action and thinks we need more of it in the country
A self-proclaimed small-'s' socialist is someone who wants to refer to big-'S' socialism as small-'s' socialism while doing their best to achieve big-'C' totalitarian Communism, and those of you on Skin's island have made that more than clear on countless occasions.

The primitives need a dictionary.
Merriam-Webster

2 a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3 : a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
Dipshits.

Cindie, I'd like a house to be dropped on them!
That library/cops/fire/roads deal is a stale talking point. Someone made it up, and I think I heard it on like Hannity's panel where he puts a moonbat on. So, as usual, there is not an original thought rattling around their empty gourds, and they spew it back into their echo chamber.
-
I have never been able to distinguish between a small-'s' socialist and a small-'s' shithead.
They always seem to bear the same traits.

A of W is that rabid socialist who will soon be kicked out of college and paint the road a new red stripe?
-
I think what happened is some DUmmies must have read Obama's Republican Problem on the Politico site today where the writer explains small "r" republicanism and why Obama isn't governing like one. In an effort to seem relevant or to feel they have parity with legitimate political philosophies they've invented this small "s" socialism which doesn't actually exist.
-
Anyone copping to a small "s" is most likley female and is walking away from a construction crew amongst the wolf whistles. Hence a conservative. Otherwise you're a DUmp monkey and just a big "s"!
I'm thinkin' they're all big "s"'s at the DUmp!

That's him.
You'd think, if he's so concerned about the lousy medical care in this country, the last thing
he'd want to do is get a motorcycle.
