Skinny trousers for men are everywhere. But how many will take the trend for figure-hugging legwear one step beyond, and wear tights? We road-test the look.
The ongoing battle for equality has returned to a familiar arena - fashion - with a new clothing range on sale at Selfridges in London.
But the short skirts, skimpy tops and leggings by fashion brand Unconditional are not designed for the feminine frame, but for men. Unsurprisingly, the leggings are jokingly referred to as "mantyhose", despite bearing little similarity to pantyhose.
This foray into androgyny is nothing new, however. Men habitually wore tights several centuries ago, and kilts have always been regarded as masculine.
Footballer Keith Weller famously sported white tights during an FA Cup game for Leicester City in 1979, motivated less by the freezing weather than the hope that these would ease a groin strain.

I know for a fact that Undies wears mantyhose and he likes it.

What kind of man wears mantyhose? Gay men, that's who. and sensitive effeminate metro-sexuals who are probably gay too.
and maybe European pansys...wait. No they're gay as well.
And that pretty much eliminates real men.

I have mine special made with a zipper fly. Makes it easier to get to the firehose in case of an emergency.
-
First Obama. Now mantyhose. Aren't these 2 of the 7 signs of the Apocolypse?
-
How dare the reporter compare kilts, are are respectable manly wear, to those abominable "mantyhose". The guy in the photo looks like a teenage girl with a bad haircut, and some hormonal issues.
-
I coulda gone the rest of my life not knowing about mantyhose.
-
Dude, and I felt embarassed wearing running pants in cold weather....

Yes, it would have to butch-up to sit down with Richard Simmons.

Manly men who wear kilts....wear nothing under their kilts. :naughty:

Ask any Scottish man what is worn under a kilt, and he'll tell you. "Nothing, it's all in perfect working order." :-)

The type men that would wear mantyhose probably buy a lot of bananas too. (think Mae West)

Didn't Joe Namath wear pantyhose?? Yes, I believe he did.....

In all actuality, many hunters/ snowmobilers/ ice fisherman in MN wear pantyhose because they are an easy way to keep their legs warm, at least from what I've been told.

But they don't wear them without something covering them. I'll stick with wearing long johns under my jeans when I have to be outside for very long on cold days.
-
Honestly?? I'd rather wear nothing under my jeans on a cold day. Long johns always got me too warm or were too bulky. Worst case, I'd throw on my insulated hunting pants in an instance where I was out in sub freezing weather for extended periods of time.

A nice pair of Carharts are also good to have.
