Medicare ‘Gag Order’ A Sign That Obama, Democrats Are Desperate on Health Care, Republican Leader Says
(CNSNews.com) – Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said the recent gag order imposed by Medicare on insurance companies participating in its Advantage program shows that President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats are desperate to pass their health care overhaul legislation.
McConnell, speaking on a conference call Monday, said the Medicare gag order showed that Democrats are "willing to employ any tactic to try to quiet the voices of dissent." McConnell said their "desperation" is illustrated by the way Democrats are trying to "shut up critics of the bill.â€
McConnell was referring to a Sept. 21 statement released by the federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) – a division of the Department of Health and Human Services – directing companies that participate in the Medicare Advantage program to cease all communication with beneficiaries dealing with the administration’s planned cuts to the Advantage program.
That order was instigated by Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) after he discovered that insurance giant Humana, which is headquartered in McConnell’s home state of Kentucky, had sent its Medicare Advantage customers a mailing that warned them of the possible benefit reductions that might occur if the program’s funding were cut.
Isn't the DNC supposed to be the bastion of free speech? Why isn't the ACLU screaming about this?

So let me get this straight. Cuts are being made to medicare, which may very well result in a reduction of benefits for those on Medicare. However, Medicare cannot tell its participant that their care may be cut because it might make government care look bad :thatsright: Are people just supposed to find out when they go to doctor and cannot get the treatment they want because of cuts?

I think that is a lovely way to treat our elderly and disabled citizens. Don't you? :banghead:

I think Lord Zero made a bad assumption, when he had the tacit "backing" of AARP, that all the senior groups would toe the line and sit down and stfu.

Uh....I don't think that is gonna work out well for him. My Mom is a Senior, and she is fighting mad. And, not alone in that emotion from what she tells me.

That's why I said he made a bad assumption. Many of the protesters have been older people, and one thing all politicians know, old people vote in off year elections. That is what have so many dems worried.

Because politics and political parties trump EVERYTHING with Libs.

I believe it is indeed a sign of desperation. As for the ACLU, they don't have much of a track record of supporting commercial free speech, although there is a body of law on the subject, mostly developed by attorneys fighting for the right to advertise their services like any other business, I would guess the company at the center of this simply decided it just wasn't in its best commercial interests to go to war over it though.

Well now the right up there with the HMO's unable tell people what's about to happen to them with Obamacare...now senior citizens can't be told by Medicaid about the benefits they will have reduced.
Remind me which party hates old people?
