Title: A most unique letter to the editor. Boy does it make the point
Post by: 5412 on September 24, 2009, 03:25:22 PM
Hi folks,

I have not checked out this source but the letter makes the point.  Knowing folks who have worked in emergency rooms and hearing many of their stories, even if this is made up, in most any large city in America we could likely walk in to the ER and see it first hand.

This was written to the Clarion Ledger by one of our General Surgery residents at UMC.  I don't think he could've illustrated this more perfectly!!  And, I 100% agree with him!!!!  Genie

Dear Sirs:

During my last night's shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with a shiny new gold tooth, multiple elaborate tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ring tone. Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status:  Medicaid. She smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and, somehow, still has money to buy beer. And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman's health care? Our nation's health care crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses.  It is a crisis of culture — a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture that thinks "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me". Life is really not that hard.  Most of us reap what we sow.

Don't you agree?

This is almost identical to the same things we see at grocery stores, so it's easy to believe.

This is a daily observation working in a hospital.
Today, we had a woman with long fake nails, hair extentions, JUICY jeans (don't know if they were authentic or not), cellphone with a rhinestone cover and about 4 small children. Guess who is paying her medical bills?...but my hospital takes care of all patients regardless of their ability to pay..by LAW.

A friend of mine is the Administrator for an ER in southwestern Ohio.  He says that sort of thing happens everyday.  It's gotten to the point of a running joke to the people in the ER.  Joke being, pick the insurance of this one or that one, as they walk in.

Hi,

What really galls me is this.  We need to destroy a system where 85% of Americans are happy with their health care because these poor disadvantaged folks don't have health insurance......

This is almost identical to the same things we see at grocery stores, so it's easy to believe.

As I have mentioned before, my daughter works at Wal-mart.  She has seen folks buying groceries with food stamps with a large flat screen TV in the cart that they paid for with cash.

WTF???

I used to work at a store and would see people come into my line and pay for the most expensive food on FS and then turn around and buy beer and cigarett's with cash.

but he's a male bunny... calico's are females.  you want him to be MORE confused about his preferences?

Hmmmm,

Thanks for the update.  I think it is the same with cats now that you mention it.

Then there should be one black and one white bunny.  Nah!  Never mind!

I'm from Jackson. Born and raised. Joined the military to get OUT of that shithole. What he's saying it NOT uncommon. It's also the reason Jackson is a f'n hellhole and essentially a donut, with Jackson dying, and everything else around it, like Brandon, Madison, Pearl, Byram, Terry, Clinton, etc., thriving. People are getting the feck outta dodge there.

UMC, "University of Mississippi Medical Center (Ole Miss's medical school), is where all the dirtbags go. My mom works at the other, Central Mississippi Medical Center (CMMC). UMC is also in an area not known to be safe, right off I-55 and not too damn far from Woodrow Wilson Drive and Memorial Stadium....where we USED to play Miss State and USM, but people got tired of being f'n robbed.
