Title: Who would you like to see to be the next GOP president?
Post by: Mustang on September 22, 2009, 03:50:47 AM
Hi, I'm new.

I'm sure most of you are aware that former Governor Mike Huckabee came first with Mitt Romney in second place in the Values Voters Straw Poll.

I like both of these guys but I frankly don't think either of them can win, and I have some minor issues with them. Romney wasn't that great of a Governor, making some poor decisions and flip-flopping, but he has solid business credentials. Huckabee strikes me as a true compassionate conservative, I love his show on Fox, and he was a very popular Governor with a good record, but I don't think he has what it takes to win.

Sarah Palin came in fourth.
She's great, but again I don't think she can win. She is an extremely polarizing figure, frankly I think people are intimidated by a conservative woman, the same way liberals love to attack minority conservatives.

I would gladly vote for any of the above and even campaign for them, but I think we need someone that can win.
I would like to see a young conservative with executive experience run for the big job. Basically a JFK type for the GOP, someone who is attractive, young, idealistic, and most importantly a great debater who has Karl Rove running his/her campaign.
Obama is a horrible debater in case people haven't noticed, all this "gifted orator" stuff is garbage, I think he is long-winded when he gives his monologues. All Obama knows is "yes we can" and "change we can believe in".

Huckabee and Romney don't strike me as tough on foreign policy. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

To be honest with you, I am not aware at all what their foreign policy views are like.
But Mike Huckabee was on Sean Hannity on Friday and he blasted Obama over dismantling our missile defense shield in Eastern Europe.

But I totally agree with you Sir, we need someone with tough foreign policy.

If only we could have two Presidents; one for foreign policy/national security, and one for domestic policy.

If I was President, my foreign policy would be like this:

1. kick out the dictators that visit the U.N.

2. Strip all our funding from the U.N.

3. Have the C.I.A. take care of first rate scumbags like Chavez, Gadaffi, Castro, Jong Il, and Ahmedinijad.

4. Boost troop levels in Iraq and Afghanistan by 25%

5. Have Attorney General Eric Holder arrested for treason

Alright. I like most of his foreign policy. I don't like how he wants to make the world like us (I mean, I want that too, but it's wishful thinking, and it implies it's our fault the "international community" doesn't like us), or his wanting to shut down Gitmo.

Myself, or as close to someone like me as possible.  I agree with almost every aspects of my politics.  I would be perfect for myself.

Since I am not available, I want to have a president in tune with Sarah Palin and/or that Arizona sheriff who irritates the liberals no end.  I don't care if it is someone no one has heard of yet.

We need a real conservative. No RINO's or moderates that want to redefine conservatism and move the GOP to the left.
Moderates don't win elections. Like Rush says, show me a book about Great Moderates of American History.

Obama is the most liberal president this nation has ever had, so we need someone who is the polar opposite of him.

We need some one who believes in Reaganism with a consistent record. Someone who can slam Obama in a debate, which wouldn't be so hard since Obama sucks at debate. Show Obama for his true colors, a socialist who doesn't even want to debate his opponents but just to get rid of them.

Whoever is the next GOP nominee, they will need Karl Rove. Because they will need to face the challenge of reversing the brainwashing of
"hope", "change we can believe in", and "Yes we can".

Whoever the next GOP nominee is, they will have plenty of political ammo, if they screw it up, God help us if we have to go through 4 additional years of Obama-state.

Considering that I think that the GOP needs to be gutted to the bare bones and re-built on it's former Constitutional values, there's nobody in the GOP today that would get my vote.  Sarah Palin comes the closest, but I wouldn't throw her into a fight like the one we face - for our country's future - knowing that the rest of the asshats in the party are going to be collaborating with the enemy, and undermining her positions everywhere.  Same goes for just about any other single GOP "rising star" you could name in her place.

One name isn't going to make this all go away this time around.

Joe Wilson might be able to get it done, but I fear he's already shot himself in the foot.

George Allen would be my first choice if he could put that "macaca" nonsense behind him.

Huckabee is out of the question after the backstabbing play he and McCain pulled in WV.

It's actually up for grabs, but if a solid conservative would stand up and start screaming at both parties like Rush, Beck, and Levin do, then get some face time, I think the time is ripe to take us back to the great country we once were. Ya know, kinda like the Reagan years?

Hi,

You have asked a good question, one that I have pondered many times.  First of all the guy (assuming it is not a woman) must have kept his damn fly zipped up and be squeaky clean.  If not you know that will be the subject the media deals with on a daily basis.

There has been some talk about Patraeus or Tommy Frank.  I have met Schwartzkof and he would have been a great president but I fear now he is too old.

Colin Powell would have been electable until he came out for Obama which I was kind of glad he did because now we know who he really is.

My guess is a general would be a good choice if he were a strong conservative and if we experience some type of terror attack on the US.  At the same time, then I would love the VP to have a good understanding of domestic policy, a history of working in private industry, and a clear understanding of economics.

Whoever they are they must have the moral authority to lead because they will have to start by getting several laws and regulations repealed.  It cannot be a McCain type who is more concerned about consensus that conservative values.

Right now the republican party is in such disarray it is pathetic.  I don't know if they even know what they stand for anymore.

I do not want Romney.  At one time he was on the top of my list.  His healthcare in MA which he prides himself on is a disaster.  Unless he can show that the libs screwed it up after he set it up, he would have a real credibility gap with a lot of folks.

Better it is not a career politician; but rather someone who can relate to the real world.

I could get interested in Huckabee.

Newt Gingrich.

Hi,

You hit on a good point.  One of the things about McCain that really po'd me was he refused to attack Obama and go after some real character and association issues.  He was afraid of being called racist or something.  At the same time I also know McCain had some dirty linen of his own and they likely threatened him with that if he opened up.

Next candidate must not be afraid of anything.  He/she has to ask the questions Glenn Beck is currently asking and not back off.  The ads they run must be specific and to the point.  I think that it is part of a candidates job to educate the voters, not only how he/she feels about an issue but also how thier opponent feels.  I can be done simply by showing the candidate in a public forum making a speech, then countering with "I disagree on this issue and here is how I feel" rhetoric.

My biggest fear after watching Beck tonight is there may not be an election in 2012 if we are not careful.

Hi,

Nothing on Beck about that, I added that.

Here is a link for you:   http://www.thefoxnation.com/glenn-beck/2009/09/22/beck-obama-his-own-words

Tonight was the scariest show yet.  He showed just what we are up against and just how well organized they are.  Wait until you see the magnetic signs he puts up next to Obama's name.

I am not so sure that we could not easily see some states secede from the union.  If you understand the Sol Alinsky playbook you create such chaos the system collapses.  Then the president declares martial law and that is where it gets ugly as they will shut down the internet (already a bill in congress) and talk radio.  The state of AZ has already passed a resolution that says in the event the president declares martial law they have the right to pull home their National Guard to protect their homeland.  Many states may follow.

If the health care bill is passed in the senate using the nuclear option and cap and trade passes I can see secession as a very real possibility.  Reason being then the government is clearly acting on their own behalf and ignoring the will of the people who hire them.

I am concerned, just hope it does not come to that,

I think you've presented a false dilemma.  I don't even think we'll get far enough for there to be a question of elections before blood will be spilled.

It's the economy, stupid*.

Putting on my seer cap, I see martial law coming to a town near you before the 2012 elections.  And then I see the good people of the U.S. saying, "martial this, dickheads."

I'm new here, but I might as well jump right in.  Gingrich is terrific, but he has baggage.  Same with Palin.  Others don't have the horsepower or the broad backing.  I really don't know if one person (or even a couple) have emerged yet.  I do know they need to appeal to the independents and conservative democrats as well as the base.  I said appeal, like Reagan, not pander.  In this climate speaking about conservative principles is gonna be the ticket (small government, personal responsibility, lower taxes, national security).  The Dems will try and turn it into another debate about abortion, climate change, war, etc., but a true leader needs to share a vision of getting back to our founding ideals and stay out of the bickering.  Not saying he/she shouldn't take a stand and be firm on details (God knows what that lack of detail has gotten us into), but you can't get bogged down in the trenches.  They gotta have a plan and speak to our hearts.  That candidate can win!!

Newt Gingrich is uber arrogant and has the charismatic traits of a toad.

Palin is charismatic but too polarizing. Moderates would do everything to sabotage her.

Unless the future ticket involves Rush Limbaugh or Karl Rove, we need a fresh face that has not popped up before.
I don't think the usual suspects can beat Obama.

If the GOP pulls another citizen McCain for 2012, we will have to suffer an additional 4 years of Obama-nation.
Whoever is the next GOP candidate I will support them, because anything is better than Obama.

Hi,

In the first year of Bush's second term Dick Morris said publically the only person who could beat Hillary according to the polls is Condelezza Rice.  Minute he said it the democrats started to amplify their smear campaign on her so she would not dare run.  Point is at that time no one really much gave any thought to Barack Obama.  He was a breath of fresh air because the public had their fill of the Clintons.

At this point I hope we are all wrong and that some strong leader steps forth, maybe Jindahl cracks open acorn in his LA investigation, or some other person steps up.  Another McCain....and I honestly feel the same way about Romney, and the election would be a lot closer than it needs to be.  A clear vision, a non commie, and someone who actually says what they mean and mean what they say will be a breath of incredible fresh air.  Might be the general who is calling for more troops in Afganistan.  If he does not get them and resigns he could indeed be a strong candidate....

The GOP needs to clean house. A surprise candidate who is the polar opposite of Barrack Obama is all the GOP needs.
If you would have told me a few years ago that Hillary Clinton would lose the primary to an interracial black man with no executive experience and has Hussein as his middle name I would have said that you are nuts.

Obama portrayed himself as a moderate to the country while at the same time assuring his hardcore base that he was very liberal.
While all that was happening we had John McCain flip flopping on the issues and attacking his own party and the incumbent president.

The moderates voted for John McCain in the primaries, while the conservatives voted for Huckabee.

All we need is for someone with some experience in common sense and is willing to stand up and tell the American people he will try and give us back our country. That's really all we need.

Like the Obumbler though, I think whoever he/she is needs to start NOW!!! This would acomplish two things. It would give the cadidate face time, and start depleting the DimWits war chest way earlier than they thought they were going to have to. With the ACORN scandal heating up, it's a helluvan opportunity to get started.
